Probably because Morrisons ones are the only ones which have a hope of actually holding your goods.

I have to double or triple bag from Sainsburys/Tesco/Asda.

You should do the Scouseland habit of going in with a rucksack, packing it full, then walking out the door. You even give them a helping hand by not inconveniencing their till staff, or wasting any carrier bags at all. Tiz a philanthropic and thoughtful part of the world Razz

If I can buy 10,000 carrier bags for £72 (0.72p a bag), how much can someone with the buying power of a large supermarkets buy them for?

I do shopping on the bike, therefore take my own bags. Carrier bags are just a bit under-par for my needs Wink

That would be enough to carry 5000 weeks (or 96 years shopping). Unfortunately, you will/may not live long enough to use them all.

No matter how few items I buy from ANY store I always ask for a bag.

Buy a chocolate bar? get a carrier bag!

Go Greggs and buy a sausage roll? Get a carrier bag!

You're always paying for them, no company gives away ANYTHING for FREE, prices of all items in store are priced to incorporate stuff like wages, rent, rates, etc. They're always inflated to cover these things, and one thing they cover is carrier bags. So I will always make sure I get one as I am actually paying for one already in the inflated price of the item!

Yes, humanity has reached the stage where we get upset over free plastic bags.

If they don't give you a bag, just nick their trolley for your shopping (also £1), then push it into the canal/ weigh it in for scrap. Rolling Eyes

Yes it's bloody ridiculous this bag tax.

It is also a tax on blokes, I do not always know when I am going shopping or when I might pop in to a shop. I am not some bird with a hand bag where I can easily store a plastic bag.

Ireland is fecking stupid over this, 17c per bag in Cork last month. Ohh forget the self scan in Tescos it totally negates it, as there are no bags.

Coming back from Ireland, I had the joy of Morissons in Holyhead, they have followed the paddies again, first no smoking in pubs, now no shopping bags.

I blame the Irish, in fact i'm off to give out to my wife.

Say what you like about the cost, but I only use re-usable bags because I actually do have a concern about the impact that carrier bags have on the environment.

It's not pandering to political dogma, it actually disgusts me how much rubbish we collectively send to landfill.

I joint the Westbound M62 yesterday afternoon and was confronted by two KFC/McFuckwits/Burgerking/Woteva Meal Deals thrown from a car/van/minibus. They obviously didn't like the fries.

I hate litter. Hate it.

Take off hoodie

Tie the drawstrings in the neck tight to close the hole & tuck hood over

Turn upside down, fill with shopping, use arms as shoulder straps

Moonwalk out the supermarket giving everyone the finger

I kind of agree, but I tend to reuse them more because there is no need to waste them just because you can.

I find the biodegradability of modern bags annoying - it means I can't reuse them for as long as I'd like often and they're generally less useful, so end up getting thrown away more.

Is this the only area of waste you're bothered by, or do you generally try and prevent damage to the environment by your actions?

You're also paying to cover theft.
To cover use of facilities.
To cover people returning things for petty reasons.
To cover people taking up staff time by telling their shop sucks.
To cover breakages.
And so on... best to get full value by doing all the above and more Razz.

I think we should all do a poo in the bagging area and give them an unexpected item to really worry about.
