Hello BCF,
I’m new to bikes and feel like I have already made a fair few rookie mistakes when buying gear etc, but on this occasion thought I would share with you the story of my CBT.
This was my first ever exposure to motorbikes and within an hour of being out on the road the other guy training with me managed to go under the front of an oncoming car.
I haven’t been reading these forums long but I know you all appreciate some MS Paint skills so i've tried to attach a diagram...
Basically going round a left bend he didn’t turn enough, crossed over the white line, clipped the corner of the oncoming car and was knocked off his bike back onto our side of the road.
The instructor was behind us both and I just remember hearing “oh shit” and then “sorry!” over my radio, as he saw the accident happen and then rode straight over the guy that had just come off!
The guy was largely alright just scrapes and bruises.
Bike went under car and was a write off.
My CBT was extended by an hour waiting for a recovery van but then passed.
The other guy failed.
Anyone else have any stories from their CBT or full tests?

Give it some time and I am sure I will have my own stories to add when take my students out on CBT. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

So the instructor rode over the crashed guy?
Surely he should have been able to emergency stop in time without locking his rear wheel unless he was speeding or travelling too close.
One of the people at my second cbt almost wheelied into the other two trainees as they parked up, and another girl crashed straight into the fence in the compound (forgot to let go of the throttle whilst braking).
Made me feel better about my riding my instructor kept having to tell me to slow down though but what he didn't know was the cm125 I was riding had a cd250 engine in it. ____________________ hellkat wrote:

Some mental Russian bloke managed to crash into 3 of us in the car park when I was taking my CBT. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

When I did my CBT, the instructor was knocked off his bike by some silly wench!
I was in front, went left at a light controlled junction. The other trainee, who was behind, stalls it at the lights and then they turn to red, so we park for a few mins to wait for him. He still hadn't shown up so my instructor did a uturn and headed back to see where he'd gone (instructor had a radio link to us, but not us to him).
At this point the other trainee came back round the corner, so my instructor started indicating right (to turn back into the car park I was waiting in) and started to turn, then some woman decided she was gonna try and go up the right side of him. Hit his front wheel (as he'd started the turn) and he fell over.
Thankfully the only damage was a broken front brake lever, and he could still ride it so I completed my CBT with no more issues ____________________ Current: '99 Fazer 600 | '99 Range Rover P38 4.6 HSE

Returning from my Mod 1, the other guy who took the test (and failed) was riding in a slightly careless way.
Probably hacked off.
We too were on a left hander when he wandered wide and into the path of an oncoming lorry which fortunately had a driver who hadn't just failed his Mod 1.
Lorry brakes were swiftly applied and disaster averted but it was close.
Its an eye opener witnessing these things in the flesh, isn't it. |

That is a classic 'left turn drift' incident.
Loads of accidents like this are the result of too much speed entering a left hand bend, loss of control and the bike naturally crosses into the path of oncoming traffic.
I don't think it is rare.
Very lucky to get a fail and not a coffin.

The Yoof on my CBT road ride with me went through a clear red light and very nearly got taken it. It was very nearly a cool story.
It does highlight that the CBT is piss poor preparation for actual road riding, and it's mental that passing Theory isn't a pre-requisite for getting on the road. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I used to do the whole going over the lines thing round corners, wasnt good. The issue was the fact that i'd think "oh fuck, here comes a van" and then stare straight at it and let off the throttle because the bike wasnt cornering. I belive it was someone on here that explained you had to look where you wanted to go and turn the bike with your knees/arse & that the bars were basicly to be left alone to do whatever...
BCF did help me out a great deal with not getting killed early on ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

On my CBT (all those years ago ) I was doing the on road bit with a young girl on a twist and go. We pulled over in a quiet suburban road to practice U turns, I had my go - all good, did another to come up behind the instructor and Barbie on the ped. She had her go, started the turn, panicked, opened the throttle, flew up a dropped curb at such a speed she nearly got air before walloping into someones front garden wall... She was asked to come back... ____________________ "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." Hunter S Thompson
