So, while it matches you requirements, in reality probably isn't a good bike for you. |

Did get stuck here, but had a pilot sporty clone on the back. With knobblies i reckon it'd have been fine

Good times. The canyonero got me a lot further than was expected, as did the keeyway paddy had that day. IMO i'd be going for something like this;

Small, cheap, very simple to repair with minimal parts/tools, lightweight, fuel efficient & designed to be worked on by men in sheds not fancy workshops. The addition of knobbly tyres after learning to ride on the road safely makes it capable for mild offroading & i doubt you'd really need much more than that till the zombie apocolypse hits. The varadero has valves, two pistons, fuel injection, half a mile of wiring etc etc - Awesome on the road, realy good little engine, but in terms of a Mad Max style world, then like fuck would i want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere when the EFI packed up. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

If you have SGC/FAC then the only prepping that you need to do is buy a boatload of ammunition (maybe easier with shotgun due to buy/hold limits of FAC) and then capitalise on the people who don't have the above.
If everything goes sour to the point where things completely break down then you'll have to consider this as the only real possibility of survival on our small island. No amount of 'prepping' will keep you alive if shit got real, it's all about intelligence, ingenuity and a strong sense of self preservation.
A loaded up 125 with loads of shit in boxes will not help you |

If he has a FAC then his local constabulary needs to stop accepting "The End Days" as a valid reason for ownership.
LOL JK? Not really, planning to "bug out" if things get a little rough seems like a pretty good definition of sociopathy, and who don't we want owning shooters? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

But yeah - wake the fuck up, good chance here to be sociable with other people as the whole normal things pretty blurred on here anyway. Stop living in pretend land & start looking at bikes as a new hobby in itself instead of a means to an end in a post apocolyptic mad max wasteland that only exists in your mind. Also worth noting that the last group of survivalist/end of days/wannabee army fruit loops I met ended up with this happening after his girlfreind finally lost it with the bullshit & left him;

Seems he couldnt deal with the idea of the child benifit that was funding the whole fantasy being taken away. Dont end up like this ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

This thread needs more Royal Enfield.
Offroad ability - Yes.
Reliability - Yes (in that it wont leave you stuck).
Simplicity of design - Yes
Repairable using basic tools - Yes
Ability to run on sub-standard fuel - Yes
Moped levels of fuel consumption - Yes
Contains microchips that would be damaged by EMP - No.
If I were to attempt a circumnavigation on a motorcycle I would either pick a Royal Enfield or a Honda C90 derived machine.

Or go one better and find a diesel bullet. They did one with a Robin diesel which is found in generators and pressure washers all over the world. Dog slow but would run on pretty much anything vaguely oil-like you could cram in the tank and does over 200mpg.

How often do those diesel enfields come up? I must admit as a plodding about town for pennys machine it does seem appealing.

In the event of SARS Zombies, my survival plan is to travel to stinkwheel's gaff and try to become useful enough that he eats me last. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Sort of tempted by an Enfield, but it does occur that for the prices that even 5+ year old examples still go for, you could get a brand new Chinese 320cc bike. Much the same "merits" of comically bad performance, lucky-dip materials, and tolerance for what passes for petrol out yonder (and a 28 litre tank, even). Heck, for £2K, you're looking at a Pulse Adrenaline 250.
Both more complex, but that 12 month warranty could be really handy after the C.H.U.D.s eventually rise up. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

i just can not believe people do this prepping stuff,
saying that the best way to survive would surely be on a boat, with a gun and a fishing rod,
deffo not a 125cc bike and a load of dried food, |

For all your innawoods needs, I recommend the humble KLE-500.

It has the power to haul gear, but it's still cheap to run, fairly good mpg, simple etc. Throw a set of knobblies on it and it's unstoppable not entirely awful. ____________________ 2007 BMW R1200R: On road

Basically you set yourself up a hydrogen cell and you put it in a Jar.
You get your power from the alternator with begins the electrolysis and attach it to the hydrogen cell in the jar.
The excess energy used from your Petrol powers this though the alternator.
You then have pipe leading from the Jar into another Jar. So Jar A to Jar B.
Jar B is to be smaller but is a collecting device for the hydrogen. Best to put a pressure gauge on this or you can have it blowing up on you.
Anyway the Gas pipe then attaches to your carburetor and blends the hydrogen with oxygen hence the name HHO or OXYHYDROGEN.
Jar B can have various filters in it but most people just leave it open.
Thats how it works.
Now this pretty much american red-neck technology. Do not try it on your bike or in a car. Just make a generator out of it.
The generator im building gets its power off a battery bank from solar panels. It then uses that energy to split the water though electrolysis then goes into a simple lawnmower engine.
So whenever the suns up I can make electric.
So your not breaking the law of thermodynamics. All your doing is preparing that water for use.
But be aware a lot of people have disappeared over this tech. |
