Hello, does anyone know, how can I turn on vsync in Ubuntu 13.04? When I play a video, there's very noticeable image ''tearing''. I tried ATI pro X.Org but that did not work, in fact it caused that lot of things did not work. It is really annoying, I tried various videos, but it was the same so the problem is in the system.
Intel Q6600, HD6790

I'm not that advanced, I use linux about a month. Earlier I couldn't run the GPU at all, I somehow figured it out a month ago. I still can not get Catalyst control center to work, my mate who earns money working with linux systems told me, that the CCC should work the same, just like in windows. By the way, I can not run CCC in windows either.
I once downloaded latest drivers for the ATi in windows and I've had no CCC since then. I uninstaled the CCC, drivers and errased it from registers, tried the SW cd that came with the GPU and nothing.
Could it be hardware problem?
EDIT: I tried different driver, in linux, but that caused that nothing worked, so I put back the open source driver.
When I put in the CCC I get: aticonfig: No supported adapters detected ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

For years I ran Slackware and NVidia binary driver. It was fine.
Then switched to ATI (chip used less power, ran cooler and was faster).
Great graphics, but terrible binary driver.
I know the tearing you mean. The screen almost splits in half horizontally. With the top half or bottom half shifting slightly one way to the other.
In the end, switched to the open source driver. My custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is

I've never had Catalyst Control Centre work under Linux. Then again, ATi for me has always taken longer to setup right, Nvida being easier.
My /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:
| Code: | Section "Monitor"
Identifier "HDMI-0"
Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
Option "Primary" "true"
Option "Position" "1280 0"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "DVI-0"
Option "PreferredMode" "1280x1024"
Option "Position" "0 0"
EndSection
