Stop at Burnham most weekends for a cuppa and I've never seen anyone park their bike directly on the war memorial. With the summer now over give it a month and there won't be any big crowds of bikes there anyway. Usually they park on the road opposite or outside the 2 cafés, is this what you mean?

Supermoto_Fan, actually, no. I do mean parking ON the memorial. I haven't got a picture to upload here but you can see what I mean if you look at the subject in the Maldon and Burnham Standard.

Like most of the residents of Burnham, I know that parking has always been an issue along the High St. but it only a short walk from the Millfields to the Cabin Cafe.

As I said, it is not always the case but it does offend a lot of locals when it happens.

This?

https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6164/6178453393_97fd2b8c39_z.jpg

That's a piece of concrete. Any significance you attach to it is in your head. And with respect, do please take your Septic "fallen heroes" patrio-babble and shove it deep up your tailpipe.

Now, I personally wouldn't park on it, but there's no "biking community" and I'm not going to say to anyone "Would you mind awfully shoving off, because heroes fell for your freedom not park there, you know."

But you're very welcome to heroically defend those freedoms by speaking to the actual people doing it at the time, rather than bawwwing on a forum and hoping someone else will hero up on your behalf.

Why not ask the people that are doing it, when they are doing it? What you will achieve by posting it on the internet is precisely... Sod all.

Look at yourselves. Honestly. Someone politely asks you to not bump your bikes up some fairly hefty looking steps and park there and you're frothing at the penis to go and tell him to bugger off. Shame on you.

Well I shall not stand idly by and let this go. I'll man up and type some meaningless words into my web browser for the cause...

I'm never going to park on there again.

I'm a hero now.

(Where in the flying fuck is Burnham on Crouch anyway? - any before anyone tells me, I don't actually care where it is. kthxbai)

I've just got off the celestial blower to the fallen and they say they're very happy to still be of use and, effectively, still a part of the living community. One of them says he was run over by a tank, so a few bikes are a proper load off and he loves it.

Can the 'people' who ride in the back of army trucks please stop spitting and chucking their fag ends out the back?

Thanks.

That has steps to go up to park anything on it. Can't see many bikers doing that, too much effort. Having said that it does appear it's in the middle of a car park. Is that appropriate? Should OP be shouting at his council? Or will that damage local traders if people can't park?

It appears to be some scooters that are to blame. Shocked

Scooters, bikes, both two wheels and an engine so yea, bad ass bikers all. Have these people not read in their history books about mods and rockers? (scooter riders vs motorcycle riders).

Hmmmm Thinking

Looking at this google maps street view (clicky link) up from that parking area the double yellow lines are not terminated correctly and so are not even valid (as well as appearing a little thin to meet regulations - click to see this image). Rogerborg may be along muttering something to do with traffic order regulations and checking them as well.

I reckon it was him who parked on the memorial too.

There doesn't seem to be anything distinguishing 'the memorial' from 'the pavement', except that the cars can't drive around the back and up onto the free parking area. How come the cars are allowed to park on the pavement in a double yellow area (even though it may be illegal) anyway?

Meh. I'll continue parking where I choose, and continue accepting the consequences for my own actions as and when necessary.

There is no steps from the rear as it rises to the level of the sea wall. The areas around are not a car park but just paved areas for bikes/tables and chairs from the cafe. Their are double yellows on the road but motorcycles can park there on Sundays between April and October and bank holidays.

Hi, to all of God's Chosen!
I joined up in '80 with 275tp (Junior Marines troop, as we were then). Went "Down South" with K. coy. Bounced around to Commachio, 40, Warrior, CTC, Poole,Dets, etc. Never got to 45, unfortunately. Spent time as a PW between 1989 and 1998.

Not much point in explaining the cleverly disguised User name as you can already tell I am old enough that this techno-stuff confuses me!

Became a mere mortal again when I left after 23yrs from Logs, in '04 and I've been working on and off back in Afghanistan since then. Been living out in Thailand since leaving and now I need to move on, so I am looking for more work in MARSEC. Any advice or heads-up will always be appreciated.

Anyone looking for holiday rentals in Thailand, drop me a line!

God's Chosen.... so you fight for religion and not for your country?
Or are you just full of your own self-importance?

IMO, the people who that war memorial is there to represent/honour would be happier if you didn't enforce the very thing they were fighting to protect us from.

If you dont know what that thing is then you should kill yourself for being a mindless drone.

My family live in Burnham and I was raised there until I moved away when I joined the military in the early eighties. I know that I have a particular respect for those, like myself, that fought for our freedoms but who lost their lives in the act. Also, I have been an avid rider my whole life and love that the riding community has shaken off the negative images that it once had.

What negative images? Bikers are still knobs who tear through the countryside with loud bikes, overtake in "silly" places, wheelie and other crap, we are still the same and we will always be the same.

Quote:

Throughout my childhood and on the occasions that I have returned home I can never remember seeing anyone show such little respect for our nations heroes as those few that have recently taken to parking their bikes on this memorial site. Lets not forget that, in some cases, it is the only marker of our lost brothers and sisters, so effectively these bikes are being parked on their graves.

They are not heroes, you can't be a hero for doing the job you signed up for, fuck off with that shit, joining the army doesn't make you a hero, by your logic if a postal worker was killed in a car accident, he was a hero doing the job he chose to do and died doing the job, what a hero.

They are not related to me, I didn't ask them to sign up and go to war, their choice.

No it's a lump of concrete, with a lump of stone on it, nothing more, nothing else, nothing less, it isn't a grave it is a plaque showing names of people who are dead, again we will use your logic, if I sat in a Golf club below the league trophy winners for 1964 and they are all dead, I am sitting on their graves?

Quote:

Please help by politely asking those riders to park elsewhere, if you see them making this mistake. If you are one of those riders yourself; you will always be welcome in Burnham if you show the respect to our nation's heroes that they have earned in their sacrifices. Remember, their sacrifices have given you the freedoms that you enjoy whenever you ride

High horse get the fuck off it, it's a slab of fucking concrete and if it is legal to park there, people can park there. The only mistake being made here is by some old fool trying to take away a freedom everyday men and women who did a job for this country have given us, and the mistake that you think they are heroes, they aren't heroes and they haven't sacrificed anything, they joined their chosen profession, they died doing their job, they didn't sacrifice themselves, sacrifice is something you decide to do with your own mind, like if you were playing chess you would choose to sacrifice a pawn to get your opponent where you want to go.

It's people like you that fuck everyone off, simple single minded attitude brainwashed by sob stories into thinking what they think, I bet you always give money to chuggers so you can pay their wages.
