This little thing weights only 50kg and it was meant to be a downhill bike without the need of pedaling up hills. The engine, seat and tank is from Honda XR50, the rest of it is from a downhill bike in frame of their own construction. It all started as a kickstarter project, their goal was 250 000 USD, they could get 160k USD. Prototypes are already for sale. You can buy it completed or just the frame, swing arm and some other bits and finish it yourself. As I understand it, you may choose the engine, wheels, pedals, front end and so on = you can build it on low budget.

I had an idea to do this about 8/9 years ago.
Yet, I still reckon my idea was better .
Weighs 'only' 50kg.
That is the big issue to my mind.
They have taken the weak stuff from a bike, but still got most of the weight of a motorbike.
Google shows a CR85 listed as 63.5kg.
Ok, it's a bit more. But for that extra 13.5kg you get much stronger wheels, suspension and brakes. You also get a rip-snorting 2 stroke motor. I appreciate the cub motors are getting pretty frisky these days, but the stock 2 stroke is often making over 20hp and has tuning potential on top!
Using a pit bike frame is lazy and I'm not convinced the best solution.
If it's a case of anything with a loop or similar, I think electric is a much better solution for this sort of thing. Can be a fair bit lighter.
However, you do lose out if you want to go longer distances without stopping to swap batteries etc. |

bodywork says crf engine says lifan .
Seating position looks wrong for "down hill" mtb riding and too far forwards to pedal whilst sitting which you would need to do on a public road (the sitting part).
I would much prefer a decent Honda camino with longer shocks and a kx60/80 front end (laced to camino rim). ____________________ hellkat wrote:

You actually gave me an idea, do you think it'd be possible for a rider to charge up the batteries via pedaling? I've no idea of how much power does it require to charge up a battery, but if pedaling was enough to slowly charge it, it'd be actually quite good. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Looks like the answer to a question that nobody was asking: where can I buy a very heavy expensive bicycle with no seat height adjustment that can only be used offroad?
Why are they even showing it with road tyres? I'm really baffled as to who the market for this would be. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

(They too can be road registered/are available road registered, as with the KTM.)
Something like the KTM on the other hand would have to be significantly detuned to come near the peak power you are getting from a highly tuned madass; ditto for handling and if you've got SM wheels, you're going to be doing massively better in the way of grip, I'd say.
I actually really liked the idea of the madass before I saw the stats - as it is, it just seems pointless because the only way it's better than any of it's 'rivals' is that it can take a pillion, albeit badly with their feet resting on the swingarm. | I just like the light weight, the big wheels, full size and the low cost and that it is a 4T, I have my ancient ty 175 Yamaha and TL 125 for near sensible off road stuff , they are pretty low powered machines especially the Honda which only makes around 9 bhp at best but it still climbs near vertical walls. |
