Car Clunking over bumps?

When i go over bumps/potholes my car is making a loud clunking noise from the left front wheel.

im presuming its some kind of worn rubber?

My Focus did that and it turned out to be summat to do with the wishbones. Was under a £100 to fix so assume it was bush related etc.

Use something as a pry bar and check things for movement in directions it isn't meant to move.

Springs on Citroens should be considered as consumable parts. The C3 is particularly bad, but Mrs B's Xsara Picasso went through a few as well.

Ball joints and bushes are the most likely culprits. Rather than trying to replace just the dodgy ball joints/bushes, it tends to be much, much simpler to replace the whole part (i.e. a control arm etc).

First thing to check on those is the Anti-Roll bar links. Whip em off (2 nuts) and give the joints a wiggle. I changed these on our Punto to cure the exact same thing.

Ordered from these guys on ebay and changed them in under an hour. At less than £15 it's worth a go.

really it could be anything and you need to jack it up and have a wobble to find any freeplay, top of my head wild guess though antiroll bar link.

My guess would be the lower swing arm p-bush, I had a 306 which is basically the same and it ate them.
They're a bit of a pain to do, angle grind them off then hammer the new ones on.

Jack the front wheel up under the engine (or other suitable mount point that ISN'T part of the suspension.)

Get someone to hold the steering wheel firmly.

Wiggle the wheel whilst grabbing the bottom and the top. When I say wiggle, yank the bastard as hard as you can. Pull/push from the topand then the bottom. if there is movement it's the bushes.

Do the same from side to side (obviously grabbing the left and right of the wheel.) If there is movement (make sure that the steering wheel doesn't move) it's the track rod end/ball joint (same thing).

If there is no or minimal movement look to see dampness on what you consider to be the suspension strut (there will be crap round it, but you will see light coloured dust, and dark coloured dust) if you see light and dark dust and an obvious line between the two, the damper is fucked.

Failing that check the spring. A break will be obvious.

I'm betting on a track rod end though.
