Current Insurance Yamaha SR125 £410

I’m 18 and been riding for 8 months on my Yamaha. I wanted to upgrade to a GS500 with a restrictor kit. I phoned up a couple of insurance companies and they all said NO! I expected it to be pricey, but they wouldn’t even give me a price. I thought gs500s were group 7

Is there anything I can do?

Just try another company. If they don't want your business, fuck 'em! Thumbs Down

I had a problem like this when I tried to upgrade from a CG125 to GS500 and it turned out I hadn't informed them that I'd passed my test. Ask the company or companies involved why they won't quote you.
Thumbs Up

It depends on a lot of things, some will only quote on 'low risk' cases.
Most of the 'big names' are quite bad, for, well, alomst everything.

Younger people often reccomend CIA.

Some companies are just bitchy, but some do exist that will. Get RIDE/Bike and look through the back, every company.

I had my license 1 week, aged 17 on a 600cc Sports so there IS places out there... but i had to ring around 30-40 times.. and got about half saying thye cant cater for that.

MC Direct are really anal when it comes down to insurance, I am insured with them right now on my 50cc and if they are cheap enough I will stay with them next year on a 125, but I will shop around. Smile

Phone em up Thumbs Up

They gave me the best quote I had for my GPz500... Didn't go with them cuz my current insurer quoted me a reasonable ammount (comparable to MD, but over a shorter term so about 1/2 price) to last till my 18th. By which point I should have NCB and be 18, so renewal should be cheaper, and i save money in the long term Smile

It seems to be a bit strange that www.motorcycledirect.co.uk will only insure you on a maximum of a 125cc. I'm 21 with 0 ncb and had my licence for 6 months and they had no problem with insuring my Hayabusa. Doh!

Now what did I pay at age 18 on my GS500. Thinking

I think I payed around the £850 TPFT mark, to be quite honest I can't fully remember but I know it wasn't over £900.

I got insured through CIA insurance, whom are really good for new and young riders, well they were in 2002 anyway, they maybe abit dearer now since they lost there most competative underwriter (Axa).

But can still get plenty of quotes etc without license or anything, long as you say (when they ask about license') 'oh i would only just have gotten it' or something similar.

Gotta remember its all recorded.. or could be.
