Exhausts I would accept, to some degree at least, there are other bikes (even larger ones) that eat exhausts. However I'd say this. These bikes are an excellent buy 6-12 months old, as you can see what state they are in as they will have started to rust by then, if they are going to. I've seen 2009 models with high miles and only what would be considered good for the year. But some were a lot better than mine!

I would not suggest anyone buy one new, the deal is good, the warranty and free breakdown is good. But it's not worth the extra.

It's got a fair turn of speed for the type of bike, it won't keep up with the 'supersport' Sick 125's but it will be leaving behind a lot of the others. But with the outstanding mpg on this bike, I'd rather a lot more mpg than about 5 mph more top speed.

This is what your £2,500 buys you. It's a few days short of a year old, most of this was done in 6 months, I jsut haven't used it since getting the ER6, which is when I should've taken it in.

When that was going Pete Tong, I reported it to the dealer at it's second service, around 2,500 miles. It's now done 4,300. So hardly high mileage. I know this winter was pretty harsh, but it was treated and always covered (even at work). Because I knew very little at the start, the bike was in at a local dealers for jobs like chain oil/adjustment regularly. Shocked

So it was maintained to the best of my abilities, certainly more than an oik who bought it, abused it, crashed it and still ended up with a bike looking better than mine!

That's properly awful, I wouldn't expect that on an £800 Chinese fake-away at that age. It's nearly as bad as a Victory. Shocked

mine is 21 months old, treated with acf50 and washed probably once a month (my commute is only 4 miles so bike stays relatively clean) i too have noticed recently the rust spots i got from the get go are getting worse, shocks got rust spots, gear change lever is full of rust! front disc brake full of rust, the rear drum brake full of rust, my biggest reason i put a scorpion exhaust on is because within 6 months the original exhaust rusted dangerously (blowing) i intend on making honda rectify this! the bike is bought and paid for so i am expecting them to brush me off, the bike has a 3 years warranty, this is not acceptable!

My Neices CBF125 is just the same just on 12 months I think but rusted to shit all over, she only has about 3k on it, her dad got his replaced after a long drawn out process with Blackpool Honda, he got a new CBR125 in replacement which he swapped for cash and a year old YBR.
Now compared to my CG with 13661 miles on it and 6 years old rust free, the CBF is crap, and I got 120 mpg out of mine the past two weeks riding nicely otherwise its around 100-110 mpg.

It's perhaps worth noting the Haynes manuals. The CBF125 manual covers the year 2009 - 2012, and if you look at the back cover on Amazon it covers the M9, MA and MB. Perhaps the MC/D had some bigger changes.

The Haynes manual was published in early 2012, many months before the new MD model was released.

A familiar sight on my last CBF125, I'm working hard to stop the same happening to my new one!

You're obviously well informed about them, which is why I'm so astonished that you bought another one.

Was just about to say the same. A fountain of knowledge such as yourself, would surely walk out of the Honda dealership and straight into the Yamaha dealership. YBR & CBF are very similar in many ways, except it would appear in terms of solidity!

Because I'm a sucker who fell for a £300 discount for a new one.

My mates bike, the one who's fuel pump had to be replaced, doesn't have a spot of rust. His is 2011 CBF125 and, as far as I know, he's never used anything like ACF50 or FS365, or anything except soap + water. Has only done 2k miles.

He never covered it at work (although it was under a bike shed). And his garage is fairly airy. I suppose what I'm getting at, is there any correlation between using a tent type cover and getting rust?
Not that it really matters, because it's obviously an issue with quality of materials or finish.

WOW!

My CBF1000 has been through a year of being ridden everyday in rain and snow.

It hasn't been coated in ACF50, but has had a wash when it get's filthy or just to get rid of road salt.

It's done 17,000 miles now and it's nowhere near as bad as this!

It's genuinely shocking to see a bike of that age, especially one from such a reputable name such as Honda, with that amount of rust on in such a short period of time.

What's even more shocking is that they don't want to replace the swingarm with an identical part. In fact, that's a little bit disturbing

I'm sure they put something especially corrosive in the road salt last winter. I had a downpipe go from shiny chrome to rust so serious it was almost holed in the space of a few months. Never seen anything like it before Shocked

All I can say is wtf ... My 2006 ybr looks better than that and it's not been washed in 2 years ... But I will say this these bike covers cause bikes to rust the trap moisture and condensation ... You ever out a wet sock in a carrier bag and left it? Then had one and left it outside overnight in the same conditions I bet the one in the bag stays more moist even if it rained for 2 hours over night ... The rain will wash salt etc off . Especially on these badly made bikes . Also I don't know if any one else has had this but the chrome on ybr forks peeling ?

I am shocked to see a Honda motorcycle in such a poor state, Honda trade on their reputation for longevity and build-quality so this is going to raise some eyebrows at head office in Tokyo. I've always been a fan of Honda so I hope they get on top of this problem in a hurry.

Honda are clearly aware, as they refused to replace the hangers & swingarm, insisting it would be better to pay to have them powder coated properly, so that is what they did! The job sheet and replacement parts was massive, wasn't able to keep it though.

So why don't they powder coat stuff instead of putting the usual ridiculous crap on their components?

Only one manufacturer ever did a proper job of making really decent winter resistant bits and that was MZ. IMHO.
