I got a rough idea but it says 'digital automotive analyser' as you can see so it just confused me

Some of the guys on here, well a lot of them kept bugging me to get a multimeter so I found this bad boy, do some tests on the bike, not quite sure where to start though so maybe in the morning some people can help me out on here.

This is typically a 'multimeter'

https://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l269/flynnuk/msoc/002.jpg

This device can be used for many electrical tests.I have one that I bought recently from B&Q as my old meter died.

https://www.diy.com/nav/fix/electrical/electricians-tools/digital_multimeter/B-and-Q-MS8233A-Digital-Multimeter-12758717?skuId=13269423

The OP has a device for testing diodes,DC volts, engine RPM,points dwell and circuit resistance,so is far better suited for vehicles except for AC alternator output and current leakage, amongst others.

So your first test is to check the voltage of the battery with the ignition OFF. Then start the bike and check the voltage again, noting the increase in voltage, that's the charging circuit putting 'juice' back into the battery.

next......

If you read what I said you'll notice why I asked.

So I put the probes on both the battery 'pins'

I read it again.
Still can't see why someone who uses a multimeter regularly would need to ask?

Carvel's suggestion, which seem to have flown a little high was, I believe, if you "test circuits with them in work" that you wouldn't need care what was written on it, because you would recognise that it was a multimeter.

You're missing the point, I put a picture of the device up, showing that I knew it was a multimeter, I could of put a picture of a hammer up for instance, and I was nicely asking to clarify my question that it was a MM, there could be different types for different things beyond my knowledge to this point

There are different types for different things.

However, if you're conversant with basic testing, you should easily be able to recognise if it has the functions you need.
