Ring up your bank and get them to cancel the DD. Had to do this once when the contact no. for some life insurance didn't work.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time and the process is very straightforward.Simply contact your bank or building society. If this is by phone or internet, written confirmation may be required. We also recommend you notify the organisation concerned, you could do this by sending them a copy of the letter you send to your bank.Your bank or building society can generally make the cancellation up to and including the due date, but try not to leave it until the last minute or you run the risk of a payment being made..

At the end of the day you don't owe them any money and it would be a hell of a lot harder to get it back once they have it (and they'd soon charge you an admin fee for the privilege).

No. Call bank or get on your internet banking and cancel the DD. If it does debit. Call bank and get them to return it and refund you.
You have to be aware that the DD process can be started upto 10 days prior to debit and in that time it can't be stopped.

Ring up bank, cancel direct debit and request an indemnity claim for the money. They will put it back instantly and bill Swinton.
