Evening All,
So it's that time of the year, insurance renewal... so here's my story;
Got 2009 ER6F in Nov. 2011 - had 1 years NCB at that point from my YBR, so got insurance, around £1000 I paid (18 year old at the time.)
This year, I am trying to get insured, same bike, 19 year old, garaged, META MT357 alarm, and my 33bhp restrictor ....
For some reason, most companies won't even touch me, which I presume is down to the restrictor, so I do a quick test, take restrictor off, bang £550. That would be ideal...
Has anyone had a good experience insuring a restricted bike? If so, which company did you go with? All these compare websites are starting to niff me off a bit...
Thanks guys,

Steve mate, just insure the bike.
It should obvious if your young / age limit as to what bike you can ride legally, it's what I did. Fuck listing the restriction as a modification, then by default your quotes will be higher if at all.
For what it's worth I'm with bikesure and the bloke on the phone twigged how old I was, when I passed and asked if it's restricted to which I replied 'yes'. They asked for no paperwork.
TL;DR Just insure it for the best price / deal ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |

Guys,
Thanks for the replies so far, I can see you are all agreeing on the same advice.
My question, 2 months down the line, someone somehow, gets through my Almax, takes the bike, insurance company do some digging, see I have restricted license, bang, no payout? ____________________ | Passed; 14th November 2012 | 1st Bike: Yamaha YBR125 2009 Model |

Then you would have your proof of restriction on paper?
I was always in the mindset that if my bike got stolen, I wouldn't be claiming anyway, as I'd only end up paying it back with increased insurance cost. So stuff like that never bothered me. ____________________ Generic XOR 50, Gilera SMT 50, GSXR 400 GK73A, Ducati Monster 600, Honda Hornet 600.

Read your contract of insurance carefully, then ask arry for clarification on anything that you're unclear about?
Insurance has traditionally been a contract of "utmost good faith" in which you're supposed to disclose anything that may be material. But on the other hand, the way it's becoming now seems to me more like a contract of adhesion. They ask the questions to which they want answers, you either go ahead on that basis, or don't.
tl;dr version, I generally agree with the advice to not offer one jot more information than is being asked, because it's clear that something is badly broken in their risk calculations. They're doing neither you nor themselves any favours by risking a restrictor the same way as a nitrous booster. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
