I'm curious about the keyless ignition on some Ducati's, what type of wireless technology is it? I know it can't be RFID because of the range.
I'm curious because when I fit my ZX10R forks and yokes there is no place for the ignition barrel (came from a parted out bike already running keyless ignition).
Also, which Ducati's used this in the past, and does anybody know how they work component wise as it may be cost effective to buy used Ducati parts to suit my purpose.

Cheers
Steve[/b]

Radio waves! the bike has an aerial with a limited range, you has a transponder on your person, when its in range of the bike it wakes up and sends an identifying signal to the bike, the bike verifies this as being legitimate and will then energise the electrical system ready for the bike to start.

As an aside Renault have been doing this for some years now on some of their cars.

Italians and electrics do not make good partners.

I know the Italians cant do electrics - I was more interested in the technology and if a generic version existed.

How about a remote unlock for a car? Could I use that to control an ignition relay? That'd probably

Your motorcycle has got to be in perfect condition that you're thinking about how to change that. Thumbs Up Smile

possibly, maybe, eventually.

fairings are good enough to do their job, will eventually repair the damage from Cadwell, might even paint them a bit better but ideally I would want a perfect condition top and sides in plastic instead of a fiddled fibreglass and a damaged top fairing.

ZX10R forks will require this ignition sorting out and will ultimately give me more improvement than a cosmetic tart up

if you wanted to go keyless and use a fob then I think you would want to be using a car alarm with in built immobiliser and rke fobs, it would be easy to control a ignition relay using the immobiliser wires.
