Found a lovely condition Skyjet 125, only thing is wrong with it is it has no choke cable but replace that simply, everything else works fine he said, wanted 500 but offered him 420 and he said alright.

Problem is I get paid in 6 days and he said if somebody offered him the money he won't say no.. So it's the waiting game for me..

Avoid it like the plague!
Skyjey, simjet, lexmoto all the copies of the cbr125 are typically crap.
and i mean crap straight from the box not just un-loved.
Save another couple of hundred and look for a HONDA cbr125 rather than china's rip-off version.
Ive seen some lovely examples go for as little as £400 so you may be in luck! especially this time of year when everyone is starting to worry about xmas and its cold and wet people loose interest, dont be afraid to haggle.

If you knew enough to live with a Chinky-Bike, you'd know enough not to buy one.

£500 is scraping the barrel money for anything with tax and test; and if you know your AF from your imperial, it could make a penny-anti bus-fare beater; BUT

Early Skyjets were horendouse. big-bore pit-bike engine in a CBF rip off frame with very poor CBRish plastics to cover the sins; they were about as quick as a C70, and probably didn't even handle as well as one of them. They were the Toys-R-Us dress up, I wanna-be a Toys-R-Us dress up, I wannabe a big-bike... and no there isn;t a clip & paste error in there! A pretender to a pretender!

Unless you REALLY know what you are getting.... hope that some-one else more dumm comes along with cash in thier hands before pay-day... not that they dont!

Ride your current bike to rust, literally, and save up for a jap.

Get something you can ride all day and not worry if you'll make it home or not.

You mean mechanically lovely under the plastics, or that the owner has given it a wash? What are the condition of the tyres, brakes, chain, sprockets, bearings, and shocks?

TomReilly wrote:

You should probably ask yourself why not, and why the owner hasn't replaced it, except that...

You've made an offer, and now you're asking for advice?

That's a dick move. You offered what you don't have, you're not committed to it, and so your word is worth nothing. Poor show. Thumbs Down

Right, the bike. I've had two Chinese made bikes, I might have another, but I would not seek out a Skyjet nor would I expect it to be anything other than a project bike and a source of problems.

You might get lucky, but if you're relying on that as a sole source of transport then I hope you've left enough in your budget for a decent tool kit and some spare parts.

It's not a dick move mate, at all, I do have the money I have already earned over that I just don't get it till pay day like most people, and I didn't ask, 'do I buy or not' I asked for oppinions, so either 'shit' or 'good enough to get you around'

It's traditional to seek advice before making an offer.

You have one naff chink bike and are front of the queue for another.

Do you have a allocated care worker?

Shit.

If it was in lovely condition then it would be more than £420. This 2012 Skyjet 125 spares or repair sold for £410.

As I learned the hard way, at the cost of £1800, chinese bikes are not worth getting exited about. By the time you have fixed it for the tenth time (or about 2 months) it would have cost you less money to buy a Japanese bike.

I don't see the point of asking for opinions then ignoring the advice anway?
you're only gonna learn the hard way, and believe me it's not a nice journey.

I saw a decent CBR for £800 quid the other day, why not just save up? (And buy it with money you have)
After all, isn't the reason you're buying this because you're last one is a chinese cheese machine?

If you have made an offer its no longer looking unless your willing to look like a mug in front of him when he says 'there you go that's £420 please'

Chinese bikes are as bad as you make them if you have a endless string of money and knowledge to put things right then go for it. Or Listen to what everyone is saying and save for a more reliable bike.

Selling due to getting a car is a load of shit, every time I sold a Chinese bike I was always selling because I wanted a car.

He is selling it because its shit! And has endless problems. At least the body work looks good Thumbs Up

I've got mixed feelings about this thread.

You shouldn't have offered anything to the seller without actually having the funds available to actually follow through on a deal.

You shouldn't have made an offer without parking your arse under and on top of the machine in dry-daylight conditions.

Chinky bikes have a reputation for a reason. They are lower quality and with that, you need to accept the fact that they are very needy. Every weekend you end up tracing a short, lubing a non-sealed chain, polishing the thinnest chrome known to man or inflating the plastic tyres.

Now with that said. They offer a very cheap avenue into biking. Parts are plentiful on eBay and other specialist sites (at an inflated premium of course). They offer you that chance to really get your hands dirty and learn how a bike works. If you maintain it correctly, you'll be rewarded with not only pride in that you've managed to achieve a level of mechanical ability, but a really cheap way to get around.

Don't expect to pay £420 for this bike and be able to service it next Julember without problems.

£420 is a fair price for a 3-4 year old bike, with T&T. If it's older or needs more than a choke cable. Forget it.

You are really heading toward cabbage land with the Daelim master Jivebunny.

Do not buy another chinky dink bike.

A jap bike can be had for like £700 Laughing

It is, and I'm not your mate, buddy.

TomReilly wrote:

You didn't have to type the words, that is exactly what you are asking. If not, what's the point of this thread? Go and buy the bike, then we'll see you in the Workshop section.

TomReilly wrote:

Shit, but might be good enough to get you round. Entirely depends on the actual bike. If the tyres, brakes, chain, sprocket, bearings and suspension are all fine then you won't lose much even if you have to part it out, but don't spend one penny more on it than you absolutely have to.

Now go and pay the nice mister what you offered, since this isn't a "do I buy or not" thread.

NOOOOO.

I'm no expert I don't even ride yet but if you get a Chinese bike you'll end up spending more money than the bike itself on repairs. That is if the garage is even WILLING to touch a Chinese bike. Don't!

I was thinking about buying a Skyjet but I totally changed my mind after the reviews.

Thumbs Down Thumbs Down Thumbs Down

You have to make an offer to even get in contact from gumtree, when you meet them in person you talk over everything
