Be sure to measure the distance between the mounting-point centers.

I have had a few 7rs, and luckily not had much grief from the 6 pot Tokicos (apart from them being a bastard to bleed up). The calipers on mine were rebuilt before I bought the bike and are still shit hot, but when they do inevitably turn to shite I'll replace with the Nissin four pots from an old oil cooled GSXR, by far the best brakes I've ever had on any bike.

IIRC correctly it's 90mm between the centres of the bolt holes.

I think speed four/tt600 brakes are triumph branded 4 pot nissins, probably the ones Hetzer got? Very good brakes and cheap on ebay.

I checked it, 90mm is correct, I'm gonna contact the seller, if he could measure his callipers.

By the way, those Tokico's are alright, just had a short run and it worked, well I must have swapped the pads because it feels a bit odd, I'm gonna give it some more miles to see if it gets better.

So did you order the Nissins. If you go for changing the calipers, can you update the thread on how it goes??

I've stuck an offer in on the ZX7, waiting to hear back from the shop. If all goes well, it may be mine in the morning.

I'm gonna give those tokico's some more miles, today I did about 60 miles and it seems to be getting better. There's no need for rush, then. I'm gonna keep you posted. The winter is behind the corner and winters here can get quite cold, -20°C and tons of snow. So, I'm gonna take off the exhaust, rear shock/spring, some panels and some other bits to repair them, so I won't be riding anyway. Thumbs Up

Recent observation:
Today, I had a go on my mates fireblade, OEM nissin callipers and my ZX7R does not brake that well as the blade. My zxr requires quite a lot more pressure on the lever to brake. But still, the tokico's might feel weak but the deceleration is quite drastic and I can operate the front brake with only my middle finger on the lever. So, are they really bad? They say every brake lever feels different on each bike, even though it's got the same brake system.
I found a set of seals for those six-pots for 33.44GBP. I'm gonna try to put some more miles on the clock before the winter break starts and then I'm gonna tell you, if I'm gonna change the callipers or not.
But, right now I think I will change them, the result is not worth the work it takes to keep them in useable condition. So, I'm gonna use those 33.44GBP on new callipers or seals, will see after a few more miles.

Stay tuned Smile

EDIT: Sorry for my sloppy reading, that's great news, I hope that everything will work out for you. ZX7R is really a must have motorcycle. I can't wait to see some pics of it. Smile

I think when the Tokico work, they will be decent brakes. My worry is, from what i've read, is how easily they go down hill. I'll be riding over the winter, well when it stays above freezing. So i'm expecting the salt to cause havoc with any brake system, nevermind a system which looks fairly weak in comparison to others.

I had a decent look at the bike this morning. It is the most standard bike i've seen for a 16 years old bike. I couldn't find any scratches or any rust at all. It looks in really good condition.
Though I have yet to go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Fingers crossed the seller wishes to part with it.

I think you're gonna get it, the autumn is about to start, the weather's getting worse day by day. I'd even try to haggle on price a bit, bad weather makes good deals, for buyers of course. Thumbs Up

When I was selling the NC27 in the begining of the summer, it was 30°C and clear blue sky above our heads. I said number and the guy paid with no hesitation. Now, I think I could have asked a bit more.

My Tokicos are great. I can lock the front wheel up with one finger very easily. I think they we're probably rebuild recently because the pads have a lot of meat on them and they really do work well.

The rear brake is alright, but the lever has a fair amount of travel. It's something I'm going to look into over the winter.

Just spoke to the shop, he has accepted to sell it! Woooooop

He had it up for £1600, I offered £1200, he said he'll accept £1250.

I am ever so slightly happy Mr. Green

Congratulations Nick, if it's as good as you described it, then it's a bargain. Thumbs Up
Now, check brakes if they work, check the oil level and then fill up the tank up to the top a give it some flat out miles. Smile

Definitely check the suspension setting, when I got mine it was all wrong and it felt odd and dangerous to ride. Here's the link of topic I started on this matter: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=278527

Yep have to agree. That is a lovely looking ZX7r you have there computid Thumbs Up

Still haven't had a chance to photo the bike properly, but I have to say i'm very quickly falling in love with 'Black Beauty' Mr. Green

The gremlins I had with starting it has now been resolved with a different battery.

The brakes have actually started coming back. I think they have eased off after the bike being laid up for a bit.

I can understand why the ZX7r is getting a cult status. I'm very much a novice, but the bike just keeps giving confidence boosts. Plus it handles great after getting used to the wait.

It can't half shift for a lardy bik, upe to 70mph obviously Wink

And the six-pots are crappy again, did around 300 miles on them in a month, always in dry conditions. Today, it was working so great (I mean really really great), everything was just perfect, did faster pace run, pushed it to the limit.
Then after about 30miles of faster run, I was in front of a corner, braked as always, but it slowed down just a bit and I went through the corner about 20 miles faster than I wanted. The lever was very soft, which doesn't mean it's wrong right away, so I set the lever further from the bar and tried the brake propperly on the straight line, acceleration and hard braking and then again. It seemed to be better so I carried on, then stopped after about 10 miles of slower pace, checked the discs and the left one was very hot and the right one was mildly warm. I could stop the bike, but it felt odd and I was not that sure about it's performance.

So, new calipers it is, after all. It's a shame, those 30 miles were so great, the zxr felt like a real superbike, the standard for perfection, but then it was all gone. Thumbs Down

My brakes are utter crap all the time. On a positive it means I ride to use the brakes as little as possible and I am planning miles ahead now.

Once I know if i'm losing my licence or not I will be decide if i'm going to do the caliper swap out.
If I do, i'm going for:

Nissin 4 pot Calipers
Brembo master cylinder
HEL lines

That sounds about right, from a superbike owner. Laughing
I'm gonna try to get any 4 pots and keep the original MC, I might even have a look at brembo calipers, they used them on race version of the zxr, right? I just want it to work properly, I don't mind the brand.

I have fitted the Nissin 4 pots to my TL1000s in replacement for the tokico 4 pots

I highly recommend the nissin calipers

no need for bigger M/C either they are really good

you want 90mm between bolt centres and are fitted to early bandit 1200 rf900 and some triumphs but on the triumph they are marked up with triumph on them

another bonus is the pads are cheaper and they are really easy to bleed

two finger braking all the way now Thumbs Up

I'm sticking this here as its a list of bikes that all all have 90mm caliper mounting distance. Some are 6 pot tokico crapiness but at least its a full list of the bikes that use Nissins too.
