Historically, self cancelling indicators on motorcycles have sucked balls.

I would list it on the "against" side of a motorcycle purchase.

Especially if it's the same system Honda used on the PC800 which is feindishly complex and includes things like a handlebar position sensor.

It actually looks quite like the old bike has just bitten down on a really strongly sour lemon!

But 'lighter' - impressed. First time I've heard that in relation to a new road bike for some time! Normally it's heavier and slower these days Sad.

Still don't see why I'd have one of these over a fireblade etc.

I just had a look and I think it looks pretty good Thumbs Up

As for self cancelling indicators? I`ve only ever owned one bike with them and that was my mighty RD 250 lc .
They worked fine on that?

Self cancelling can get fucked, I have to repeatedly mash the buttons on my GS to stop it cancelling in the middle of roundabouts.

It's still a VTEC engine sadly - I wish they'd fitted the old gear-driven cam engine as it's a much nicer engine (I've had both models) Sad

Another 20bhp would have been nice too.

Just 10kg lighter? They need to take another 20kg off it's lardy ass.

It only produces 100bhp no need for such a heavy frame and beefy swing arm.

So it's making 3bhp more than the 750 was in 1986 and is 8kg heavier. Rolling Eyes

I had a 1989 VFR750FK and 2000 VFR800FiY at the same time and the 800 was much faster, and better handling. It was a completely different generation of bike (as you'd expect) and is still a great bike to ride today.

The new one may only have 104bhp, but it will be usable bhp, with a decent mid-range, unlike a sports 600. Throw in good handling, build quality, comfort for both rider and pillion, and the option for hard luggage and it'll still be a great sports tourer Thumbs Up

The 500 is heavier AND less powerful, so that's still pretty good by modern trends Smile.

Just be glad they haven't reduced the power to the restrictable A2 range or whatever.

It'll be good but it's not progress, it's recursion.

Upgrade the brakes and suspension on a 750 and it'll give the 800 a run for its money. One thing you could not say about it is that it's short on either midrange or the ability to use its bhp.

The main difference as I see it is that the plastics are nearly impossable to remove from the 800, but that's ok because the engine requires an enormously expensive dealer servicing for the major service because of the VTEC (to the extent where people sell them when it is due). They do however return much better fuel economy.

They should have kept it just like the 3rd gen 750s or 1st gen 800s but taken the engine out to 1000cc. It's what everybody wanted. It's what I still want.

Surely that would be a split v-twin?

@vincent Yes I get what you mean about slipping the clutch a lot at low speeds.

A stage 1 dynojet improves things greatly, smooths it all out... but you'rs is Fi so you'd be loking at dialling in a power commander.

Still don't see why not just get a C/E/F ZX9 and make a few ergonomic mods Razz.

I'd expect to have to slip the clutch a good bit on sports 600s. Big twin sports bikes often suffer general lumpiness too - in both cases as the power is 'tuned' for the peak power. Has got better with decent FI.

It's totally ruined. I kind of liked the space age VFR800 with the underseat pipes which is becoming a rarity today on new bikes. It was very different to anything else like the Honda FN2 Civic as well.

I think that offering a more sporty version of the bike as a sport model would have been good though. De-linked brakes, fully adjustable quality suspension, no ABS, and a factory fitted performance exhaust, along with some lightweight forged wheels to say lop off 10-12kg would really please the it's not sporty or light enough people.

A bit like the CBR600 sport they did, but a better job of it.
