 |
|
Hi guys,
Had the nose fairing off to replace a bulb and thought while I had it off, to repair a crack in the headlight bracket that occurred when the previous owner dropped it.
Planned to nip to B+Q at some point, but wondered if anyone could advise what glue product would be the best for this type of repair?
Off the top of my head I would probably go for one of those two-part epoxy syringe type glues, but Im really clueless on this topic!

Gorilla glue, or any of the other PU brands. Or go to the double glazing shop and buy some of their CA glue, it's thick, slow setting and much stronger than the regular superglue.
Plastic welding with a soldering iron can work but most people just burn the plastic causing it to go brittle and break even easier. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

If your going to use glue, get some thin metal sheet, cut out a piece and bend it into an "L" shape, to fit inside the plastic lug.
Glue that in place, this way you will have, at least, added more strength than the glue will have provided.
I've used this method in the past, and the repairs lasted very well! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

hi,
i have tried Q-bond, plastech, & umpteen other glues including epoxy.
plastech & u-bond are both as good as each other but i usually take a piece of meccano (a 1 hole wide strip) & glue this to back of any repair. meccano is useful as it can b bent to shape & i have loads of it lying around since i was a kid
even cheap epoxy from poundland will do, as long as you have an eye for detail, a dremel (or similar) to grind a V into the crack/split & a bit of patience.
top tip? use masking tape otherwise u might make a mess.
plastic welding should be avoided unless you have done it before,
cheers,

Did you use the Q bond with the powder? i have found it to make incredibly strong repairs, although it wont work on all types of plastic |
