Been at this for a while but I'm finally getting somewhere so I can risk a topic now Laughing Not a very mechanically inclined person and this my first 'proper' bike so I'm learning as I go.

For anyone else wanting to do the same this link will be helpful

Messed up the rear end after looping the bike so went for a motocross style fender

Good spot by SQL, found some X forks on ebay after giving up on the front bracket.

Now this is really annoying...After wondering why the front brake didn't fit straight on to the new forks I realised it already has a adapter bracket on it..And yes...It was for the standard R forks! Embarassed

Not sure whether to sell the forks or bracket on..

Got some Diablo Rosso 2 tyres on order and need to give her a full service. Also need to give recovering my seat a go, will see how that goes Laughing

Thanks!

Got the forks on, seemed too easy so I'm hoping I haven't missed something...

As my luck would have it, the front brake doesn't seem to fit...So I'm pretty confused. It's about 4-5mm out, Any ideas?

Make a 4-5mm spacer? Thumbs Up

I'll give it another go tonight without bodging it, It's really close so a little grinding on the fork leg top and bottom would make it fit I think...It's just not the correct way to do it.

I'm a little confused SQL really. The brake was meant to be from a DT X but as it turned out, It already had the required spacer bracket made. I didn't even think to try and fit it thinking it wouldn't fit without forks. Embarassed

The forks themselves are a good buy...It's just weird how it doesn't fit together, I'm guessing someone has listed something wrong.

Worse case scenario is to use the old forks, but it's a shame to now I've got the better handling, stiffer front forks already on there.

As usual, nothing is easy Wink

Can bend the frame back into position using some scaffold poles and pulling it.

What happens when you wheelie a road bike with the subframe all in one. Laughing

Also order a new silencer soon or if you have a spare, even better. As your exhaust will eventually start blowing / snap clean due to the bending. Rolling Eyes

P.S need to get proper bolts for the front caliper, them Allen key bolts are useless. Had some on my caliper, they came lose. Luckily I noticed before riding otherwise my front brake would have failed, or thrown me over the handlebars... Wink

Thanks for the advice!

I've got threadlock to put on so i'm hoping they'll stick, just ordered a second hand exhaust end can too...hopefully will make her a bit quieter as well.

I have no idea where that front brake has come from now, but someone has done a good job getting it to fit the standard forks so I'll be putting those on with SAE 15 oil and see how it goes.

Main jets and new reeds on their way to set it up for winter.

The good news, she's finished.

The bad news, she's in a car park far from my house with a seized engine.

That'll be all.

Breakdown cover brought her back home today, will get some pictures up soon. A brief inspection turned up a snapped powervalve cable, but i'm struggling to believe the powervalve would cause seizure.

It's gonna be tough to keep up the motivation, I even ended up looking at driving lesson prices last night Embarassed

Haha I've taken the advice and ordered an engine...should be here tomorrow!

Plan is to simply swap engines and rebuild the original over the course of a month or two. How hard can it be right? Laughing

have you decided on which method your using yet? im doing a conversion myself and im looking for either a bracket for the caliper or some dtx forks and im interested in buying whichever method you dont use, if you want to sell that is.

just another question about your rims, where did you get them laced on to the hubs? as one plan is to lace my excel front rim onto a dtr hub so they just bolt on but by the looks of things its different spokes?
cheers in advance for any help / tips Very Happy

Hi,

I went with the conversion bracket as I needed to free up some cash and sell the forks. If you plan on buying DT X forks then make sure you get the standard front brake bracket with it as they cost about £50 from Yamaha.

The wheel combo was ready made and on Ebay, I think the rims are from a WR 125.

Sorry for the lack of updates for those that are interested, i'm learning as I go which includes making the odd mistake on the engine. Embarassed

Okay cheers I was just hoping you hadn't used the bracket and would be willing to sell it lol. I'm having My front dtx rim laced onto a dtr hub so they're just one off one on Smile might phone Yamaha first and see if they do a bracket to put the brembo 2 piston caliper on the dtr forks for better braking. (Or if anyone reading this has one for sale then that would be ideal. Il also be after the caliper if anyone has both but I won't be buying the caliper until I can get hold of a bracket aswel.)

Thinking What mistake did you make on the engine for it to seize?

Did you forget to fill your gearbox oil up after dropping it or something?

Can get engine fully rebuilt and resprayed for about £350 by a guy in Notts.
