What kind of riding are you doing? I find my right hand (not wrist) aches when I'm riding through lots of difficult, inner-city traffic, which is counter-intuitive because my left is doing most of the work (slipping the clutch). I think it's mostly because I'm tense and gripping the bars too tightly. I concentrate on gripping the tank with my knees, which for some reason causes me to loosen my death grip and sit up more.

If you are mostly riding open roads and just working the throttle and brake lots, then: A) see if the brake lever is correctly aligned for you and/or B) look into what is called a "cramp buster", like one of these.

I got it a lot with my ZX6R, it used to have a really stiff throttle and would eventually start hurting. I eventually bought one of them gadgets that let's you use the throttle without having to twist you wrist.

Can't remember what they are called, but it's a bit of plastic that does the trick.

It's mainly long roads I ride so I work the throttle alot more than the clutch.

Crampbuster, aka cruise control. They come in various styles, and really do work if the problem is that you're stressing your tendons by holding your hand in a "knock knock" posture.

I think I'd rate them as the best value-for-money gadgets that I've tried.

Roger, are you saying that you actually purchased (with cold hard cash) one of those? Shocked You didn't make one out of an old bit of guttering nicked from the neighbour or such like?

Can you twist it round and wedge it under the brake lever for hands free riding...?

Embarassed Caught me.

In my defence, the one that Ze Beemer has inherited is too big for its ickle girlish grips, so I padded the grip out with a big old mess of electrical tape. Wink

It's a real scunner that you can't use a cramp buster and muffs together, it's like Sophie's Choice choosing between them. Yes, it's literally like choosing which child gets gassed by Nazis. Folded arms

I have this happen from time to time. Doesn't seem related to the stiffness or otherwise of the throttle cable, so much as you hold you hand in an unnatural position sometimes, especially in cold weather. You have to consciously think about it and then make adjustments.

Need to be careful is doesn't lead to tendonitis as that's a real bastard. As I recall, it's what buggered Freddie Spencer's career.

What sort of position do you ride in?

Ideally your forearms should be parallel to the road with a bend at the elbows for best control.
Definitely with 'loose' wrists.

This may help relieve pressure off wrists, it'll also give you better control.

To give you an idea of the difference - ride along with straight stiff arms and try wobbling the bars (somewhere safe to do that, of course.)

No repeat with loose arms flat to the road and do the same thing again.

Do you ride with your hand covering the brake lever? If so look at where it is positioned.

Try riding with your hand in your pocket.

Or MTFU.

Very Happy

There's a stretching exercise someone posted on here in another thread that worked for me.

Move your hands into a praying position, palms against one another in the middle of your chest, so your forearms should form a straight line. Then point your hands in towards your chest as far as you can.

Wrist ache? New bike? It'll go away soon enough as you get used to it well it does for me when I get a new bike, the most annoying bit is the forearm ache from getting used to the new clutch and brakes.

The 'knock knock' position describes it well

Past few days I've been riding its been going away but as I'm in work now (rode to work) it's back and killing again.

I did find myself adjusting my hand position when the throttle is open to a more natural position because I had to to stop any pain

Wrists fair suprisingly well considering its a sport bike, i did however sprain my fingers from prolonged periods of clutching this summer during a lot of time bobbing around cities, got so bad i had to stop riding for a week and a half to let it recover at one point Laughing

Knees tend to lock up after about 4 hours riding also, but if i take an hours break they start to un-seize, dread to think what i'll be like by the time i reach my middle-age Rolling Eyes

I think my bike would seize up after a 4 hour ride Laughing Laughing
