Sorry - two silly newbie questions:

1. After several recommendations, I've bought an Almax chain for my Yamaha SR125. The only problem is, it's so big and heavy I don't know where to attach it where it won't cause damage. Even just threading it through the back wheel is difficult because there's barely enough room between the spokes and it feels like it's putting pressure on the spokes (I know pressure is put on the spokes due to the weight of the bike and rider, but it feels like it's putting pressure in the wrong directions).

2. On the left of my Yamaha SR125, just under the seat, is a keyhole. When I inserted and turned the key, a little bar thingy slid down and forwards slightly. I don't know what this is for Embarassed It's dark outside at the moment, though, so maybe it will be obvious in the daytime, but meanwhile I'm wondering whether anyone could perhaps enlighten me on its purpose? Smile

1. It won't damage anything. Rolling Eyes Ideally wind it through the frame and/or a wheel and attach to something solid like a lamp post or whatever.

2. No idea Confused

1. Does the chain not have some sort of protective sleeve over it?

2. Maybe it's something to hang your helmet on? Mine has a little steel rope at either side just for that.

Yes, but it's the weight of the thing squeezed between the spokes (VERY tight fit) and then pushing down on them (at an angle they're not supposed to have force applied to them) that I'm worried about. But if people here think it's fine, then it's probably fine Smile Sorry for the silly question Embarassed

That makes sense! Thanks Thumbs Up

It is probably a lot easier using the bulky chain on a bike with cast wheels design than spoked wheels but you should be ok if careful threading it through the widest gaps in spokes.
I think the small key operated bar is to secure your helmet on via the strap/ buckle.

What about putting the chain between the forks above the front wheel?

That's what I do because I can't get the chain through any part of my frame. On the plus side, the chain is well off the ground and less susceptible to a sledgehammer attack. On the downside, if the forks are easy to change, then the thief can just undo a couple of bolts...

Of course, this also applies if it's easy to take the wheel off the OP's bike.

You need one of these.
https://securityforbikes.com/anti-pinch-pin.php

I use one poked between the gap between the engine and the bike then connected to a 16mm almax 2m chain then through a ground anchor
