I think it might be front wheel bearings, or chain n sprocket, or gearbox :/

Setting off from the lights in 1st feel and hear a hard clunk, clunk, clunk. The frequency increases with speed. It happens in 1st and 2nd gear, possibly 3rd but I cant hear it although i do feel it in the pegs.

It doesnt sound like a good clunk.

Money is uber tight atm and I have seen this pikey chain n sprocket set for 45 quid to rule out a fuxord chain.

https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/kawasaki/zxr_400_l1-l3/91-93/picture/swift_heavy_duty_chain_and_jt_sprocket_kit/

I have front wheel bearings ready to go in, need to find a place and time to do it though.......

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for something expensive and gearbox related.

My ER6, had a weird clicking coming through only the right foot peg, adjusted chain as it was a little slack and all but gone. Put it down to a stuck link or damaged tooth. I plan to replace this weekend.

If that helps

Check your chain mate. I had similar symptoms on my GPshed and when I changed the chain and sprockets, I found that a few of the rollers were missing from the chain! Thumbs Up

I had a Swift chain on my Z750. It lasted 150miles and needed adjusting about 5 times in that mileage before this happened...

That is shocking Shocked

Got one of these sets on the Ninja and no complaints from me:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/X-Ring-Chain-and-Sprocket-Set-Kit-KAWASAKI-ZXR400-H2-L1-L9-ZX-4-88-02-/400460997905?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item5d3d55e511

Cheaper than a DID chain but admittedly more than the cheapo kits.

If the sprockets arent too worn, a DID or SSS heavy duty plain chain will set you back 20 quid and be a beeeeelion times better than the swift POS.

its not like my bike weighs anywhere near a 125 or anything... cos those things are massive.

its not like my bike isnt in mint condition or it isnt over 20yrs old...

its not like i dont have circlip pliers or anyway of lifting the front end up without the bike falling over.

but sql i am intrigued, how would you do it?
get your mum to hold the front end up while you swapped out the bearings?

I have the same problem with the front of the bike of mine.

I can do the back okay (stick it on axle stands) but there's no way of supporting the front...

Put front of bike between front gate of terraced house an pass scaffold tube through frame or below bottom yolk put one end of pole on one wall and lift the bike with the other end and then place that on the wall.
Put bike under tree and attach bungee cords to bike and tree until bike lifts.
