I ride my bikes all year round and don't own a car.
My advice would be:
Go easy on the throttle.
Keep warm.
Don't tense up (like you are expecting to crash).
Make sure everything is working on the bike.
Don't panic if you come across ice or slippery roads.
Short shift (lower power).
Be gentle on the brakes. (use the rear as well if going straight)
Don't be intimidated if you need to go slower but a car is up your arse.
If you can, ride in the car tyre tracks in the road as it should be clear there (more so when icy or snowing).
I find roundabouts a bit of a pain in winter and find car drivers give you no room. The trick is to keep as upright as you can and not make too much of a sharp arc. Ride as much as you can in the outer most tyre track (not right on the outside of the roundabout as there is loads of crap there) and once straight go to your lane. The only problem is car drivers will sometimes nick your space if you leave enough room even if indicating right.
Tip toe a little around roundabouts if you feel unsure, but still try to have confidence as you tend to tense up if you don't have any which actually makes your riding worse.

I dont tend to cover my brakes because if they are covered and you need to stop, instinct tells you to go WHAM if they are covered, whereas if you arent covering them, You have to physically move your fingers to the levers before applying them...

In wet, cold, icy, frosty weather I dont use my front brake at all, Only the back.

Ok, I put new rear pads on in october time and by feb they are ready for changing, but its better to be safe!

My advice, Ride a bit slower than you would normally and think before you make a turn, use your brakes etc...

Thing is, you have to take that split second to react and then apply your brakes, and that could be the decider. I only really cover the back brake, cos I can deal with the rear sliding about a bit, wouldnt like the front to go though.

All true but you all missed out the main thing.
KEEP YOUR BIKE CLEAN!!!
If you dont then all the grit salt eats away at your bike.

You don't use your front brake in the rain? I always do, just use it smooth and in conjunction with my back and it works a treat.

Make sure you keep your bike covered/in a garage at night cause it is so damn cold, my bike refuses to start sometimes after being left out in the cold. Once it is on let it warm up, so you get maximum response out of the engine to get yourselves out of a dangerous situation without causing too much stress to the engine. Smile

Ride slower than normal, espically round tight corners possibly.
Keep your eye out for any ice/slippy patches on the roads.
Keep yourself warm and protected if you do slip and fall (hopefully not.)
Suppose you could cover the brakes if you wanted to.
