Your electrics are earthing through the spring. Check all your connections and look for broken wires

could this mean that the earth is not connected and the shortest way to ground is through the spring or that there is a broken live connecting with the frame somewhere ?

Hi

Not sure of the style of brake switch on the KMX, but presume you have a spring from the lever to the switch and it is this spring that is heating up. If so it suggest that the shaft the spring attaches to on the switch is metal and is shorting out internally to the contacts for the brake light switch.

I am also surprised is hasn't popped a fuse, unless that circuit is not protected by a fuse in which case the wiring might be getting a bit toasted.

All the best

Keith

I reckon he's talking about the switch spring and not the lever return spring too.
The one in a bracket above the rear brake master cylinder on the RHS?

As said, it sounds like a contact has come loose and is shorting to
ground via the metal plunger and spring.
A cheap easy fix

Just disconnect and tape the wires up until you fit a new switch

Even found a lubberly pitcher
Its the common as muck type found for a fiver on Ebay here

While I'm rantin on....
If you dont set the switch up right ,this can drag the guts out of them and they do need checking from time to time as brakes wear.
