Hi all,

I am going to be using a GSXR400 engine for a project, I have been informed that its an import engine and it runs on carbs. I am unsure on the exact year it was made although doing a quick wiki search they all seem to be about the same apart from the very late model which seems to have a 7bhp drop (guessing emissions stuff).

Anyway, I was just wondering about parts for the engine, are there any parts in common with other bikes that could be swapped over? Anyone have any opnions on the engine at all? It seems to make around 60bhp and rev to 12k rpm so not too bad for a small engine. Does anyone have any technical specs on the engine eg compression ratio, valve lift etc?

Thanks in advance

does it have conjoined inlet rubbers (ie. 1+2 and 3+4 are double up)

if so its a gk71f

does it have an external cannister oil filter?

if so it a gk76a

else its a gk73a which has 4 seperate carbs but an internal oil filter.

incase you were wondering , the 73a uses the same oil filter as a gs500.

Thanks for that I will give the engine a check over and see what exactly I have/am getting lol

Are there other Suzuki parts that would fit this engine?

Just got the engine back, it has 2 double carbs and I can't see an external oil filter so I am guessing its a GK71F then? Hopefully its a good engine lol Very Happy

Engine is decent, make same power as the GK73, however, it is near impossible to tune extra power, due to the fact that jetting cannot be changed since there are no other jets available on the market for the carbs.

Thanks for that, I don't really think I would need extra power from the engine, after all it is only 400cc but it revs to 12krpm which is plenty.

Are the jets removable at all? Would it be possible to simply buy another set of OEM (or simular) jets and then look at drilling them out slightly? Again, not really in the plan but I was just wondering about the options.
