Clock reads 75mph on mine, and thats at 10,750rpm. Probably a bit more if you take it in the red, but I never have. If you go onto www.125ccsportsbike.com a few others reckon they have had 80mph, but that's probably going downhill. ____________________ Gotta get my knee down... |

My cbr125 does (did) 82mph on a flat road with no wind. Confirmed by the others i was riding with. The clock said 85 so it's a bit off.
It's a kinda slow bike but i love it. It stays steady and hasn't got the "bee in a bucket" noise that the 2 stroke 125's have.
(no offence to all the 2 stroke riders i just don't like the sound) ____________________ https://www.bebo.com/Z1000-Wildkat |

Quite a few exhaust companies are making performance cans for this bike as well now. Over at the 125 sports bikes website the admin there sells an "Endurance" system which improves top end a bit, but apparantly improves the slowness of acceleration in about 3rd or 4th gear. Micron make two sets, one is just an end can, I have a video of it on here somewhere and then they have the underseat system, which is a full kit including down pipes etc. Which improves top end...a little.
Quite a few modifications that you can make to this bike now, however you will never realistically ever get near the 90MPH mark. Although some naive little child from 125 Sports bikes believed that the CBR was restricted and that he has got his to go 100MPH. That is not true, he says he changed the CDI's or something.
Some people have also been tinkering with the extremely narrow tyres on the CBR and some have been fitting 120s on the rear of it, just to make it look a bit more meaty. In my opinion Honda were wrong to put this in the "Supersports" catagory as it would never keep up with a 2T. However don't be listening to the people who say it is a CG with a fairing. It uses a completely different engine system. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Probably makes under 15hp at the rear wheel if you put it on a dyno though, sotechnically should be ok anyway. |
No, the 12hp / 9kW law only applied to bikes registered after the introduction (cannot remember the exact date), so it was perfectly legal for a learner to ride round on a 16hp CB125T or the RD125DX registered prior to the change in the law.
Honda replaced the full power CB125T with the restricted CB125TDC. These still revved quite high but only had 12hp or so and were quite heavy (they had an electric start, unlike the CB125T). Certainly will not do more than 75 on the flat.
Same as with mopeds, where they are still 16er legal if registered before a certain date (1977?) and fitted with pedals as long as they are under 50cc, irrespective of the performance.
Charlotte had a full power CB125T. It snapped a con rod which somewhat killed the engine. Prior to that it was OK. Would do a bit over 80, but a derestricted 2 stroke 125 would leave it for dead.
There used to be quite a few 125 twins, made by people such as Benelli, Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki, but they all died out. Suspect cost had a lot to do with it. At one time even Triumph made a 125 2 stroke twin (under licence).
All the best
