You won't get a Daytona 675 for £2500 unfortunately

You will get a gsxr 750 k3/4 as above though, which is arguably one of the best sports bike made in the last 15 years, it's better than the new ones. Easily find one for 2-2,5k

I don't think there's really been a 'bad' sports bike from the big manufacturers for a while - so whatever is good value that's close enough you're happy to go and look at it, etc.
Would have thought a 675 would be pushing the budget a tad.

Stacks out there for that price.

One to suit everyone's taste and fit.

Try a lot out. Some fit better than others.

You can get all sorts for that money. I would think its gonna be a few years yet before the daytona gets sub 2.5k, most are hovering around 3.5 ATM so a few years yet as they hold there value well, plenty in the market though so will only be a matter of time.

I must admit the 675 I like mostly on looks. I thought about R6 but they seem to be viewed as needing a lot of work to ride well.

I do not know, but those who do might want a bit more info.

What are you after? Roll on torque? Top end power?

What will you be using it for? Commuting? Touring? Twisties?

One or two up?

Why have you ruled out litre bikes? What is it about them that you don't want?

What is it about the XJ6n that's prompting you to look elsewhere?

Weekend twisties but without too much power as a first sports bike.

The XJ is my workhorse.

If 675 are getting 3.5 as private sales, the trade in value will be 2.5 or less. Look for someone looking to buy another bike..

Id get the gsxr 750, not going to get a better bike for that money

R6 is ok but fairly boring bike to look at IMO

Cbr600 is fairly nice if you get a newish one, older ones look horrible and there all pretty slow

Maybe, but the GSXR has always been the most generic bike you can find.
Over the last thirty years, if you asked the man on the street to draw a sports bike, they'd probably draw a GSXR without realising it.

Yeah agreed g the gsxr is a very common bike, but I still think they look good even though there common

I find the r6 a bit bland, I've only ridden an 02 and it wasn't anything to write home about. It was fun, any bike is fun though, just didn't seem to stand out all. My gsxr is the most fun bike I've ridden so far

Given it'll be a second bike and used for fun, have you given consideration to an old 400?

Bear with me. You can get one in budget, it won't lose value and may even increase, and you can show it the whip.

Just kicking it out there.

It's not just being common, but the design to me - it's just 'generic'. Ok, it's evolved a bit with the times, but that's about it.

for 2500 it's not impossible to get a b1H zx6r, possibly the best 'sports' 600 of that era

in my garage is sitting and has sat all year a spanking mint condition cbr600 f sport, 2001, 15,000 miles. previous owner was a british airways 1st officer who was away flying most of the time and so it sat in his garage, then my mate bought it, used it on 2 rides out this year and its been sat in my garage on the optimate ever since.

it must have cost my mate a fortune in insurance/tax/service cost per mile because it doesnt ever get ridden anywhere - he s too busy to ride more than about 3 times a year.

make him an offer coz id like it out of my garage!!!

Roger mentioned 400s and that's a good shout as well, my first bike was an rvf400 and that was great fun. Absolutely loved it on the twisties but was underpowered for long dual carriageway stints, pain £2500 and kept it 2.5 years, sold it for 3k

Agreed. If you can pay the extra, get a Daytona. If you can't, get a B1H. Superb bikes, 2.5k will get you a decent one.

Fireblades are well within reach, 919's easy (you could buy two right now with your budget), 929's within reach. 954 possible but be wary you will be at the cheapest end. I want a 954, second iteration of FI which Honda had working properly by then apparently.

GSXR 750s are awesome bikes, you would never need anything else for throwing yourself round twisties on the road. Excellent trackday tools too.

If I had known years ago I would have avoided 600 sports bikes completely and gone for a 750 instead.

Stretch you budget very slightly and look for a 2004-2005 model. They have been described as almost perfect, with a chasis better than most of us can ever hope to fully exploit.

I rode one of these and I have to say it made my ZX7R (which I loved) feel like a barge in comparison.

Example - this is up for £2750
