I have a 2004 honda cg125-es4 and it's been great until recently.
Sorry I'm new to this so here's the history...
New battery fitted then all summer it was used daily for long and short journeys with no problems at all. I went on holiday for a week and came back expecting it may not start, put my trickle charger on overnight, went out to it and still nothing until someone smacked the starter motor and it fired into life. Then started to have issues with it just clicking on the starter so stripped down the starter and changed the brushes...again no further issues.
Now with it getting much colder in Scotland its doing more short journeys and it's being very temperamental, some mornings it'll start no problem, others I have to push start it (no useful kick start on this model!). If I charge it it'll be fine for a couple of days..then if I don't use it for a day it won't start the next. Push start it, go to work and it'll bring me home no problems hours later...so it is obviously charging. Generally the trickle charger shows the battery to be around 11.5 volts on the days it won't start and it boosts it to full no problem. But when the starter is pushed it always drops by at least a volt hence when it's only at 11.5V it doesn't have the power to turn the engine.
I know the cold and short journeys aren't helping, and I've stopped using my heated grips over a month ago unless it's a long journey..totally negates the point of having them when it's cold but wanted to rule out them taking the extra power the battery might be needing.
So new battery, new brushes, new spark plug and I'm out of ideas...is it possible to upgrade the regulator so it's getting more of a charge on the short journeys? Any help would be greatly appreciated...also sorry for rambling |

CG125 charging system is not really up to running heated grips if you just doing short journeys Unless you charge the battery regularly as well
There is not really anything you can do as I don't think there is any uprated windings made
