Hi BCF just a quick question, my bike don't fit the bhp restriction as it's 100bhp and at 19 I need the factory bhp to be no more then 94bhp (I think).

Will an old fzx750 fit this requirement? My dad owns one and reading a few sites the claimed bhp is 94.

I think it will be ok but just want to check before restricting it (apparently they want to see a valid restriction certificate upon testing?)

Thanks.

I'm unsure about that bike, but this might help in case, otherwise.

A bit of googling found this on the FZX750, from fzx750.co.uk would you believe...
https://www.fzx750.co.uk/Specs.jpg
So that says max power 92.7hp. Not sure if they mean actual bhp though as hp may be the theoretical max. Even so on an old machine a few horses will have been lost.

motorcyclespecs.co.za put a 1987 model at 94 hp 68.5 kW @ 9500 rpm (rear tyre 81.4 hp @ 9000 rpm )

Seem legit.

If the person above is correct, then yes. If the person above is incorrect then no.

Brick Wall
For A2 licence...
Government wrote:
...A2 motorcycle licence: At age 19 or over, you take a test on a motorcycle without sidecar of at least 395 cc with a power output of at least 25 kW but not exceeding 35 kW. If you pass, you may ride any motorcycle not exceeding 35 kW and with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW/kg....

25kW is approx. 33.5hp
35kW is approx. 46.9hp (also seen 35kW=49.6bhp).

So restricted FZX750 wouldn't be more than twice 46.9hp so okay. Confused

FXZ750 weight is quoted as 205kg dry. So add another 10kg for fluids? So 215kg at say 94bhp, so that's approx 70.1kW, giving 0.33kW per kg, so at say 46bhp that'd be ballpark 0.2 per kg (calc is approx as not got right weight/info).

HTH Thumbs Up

links to pages click in quote on Government text before wrote text.
Calculation of hp based on 1 hp = 745.699872 W = 0.745699872 kW (see here).

I was allowing 13 litre tank which is ballpark 9.5kg of fuel. Appears the other fluids add up to around just over 6kg then.

So 221kg at say 94bhp, so that's approx 70.1kW, giving 0.32kW per kg, so at say 46bhp that'd still be ballpark 0.2 per kg (calc is still approx).

Well.. I think they can (whether they would or not..) refuse to do the test if they believe its over the power limit.

I'd have a tried tested cheapy bike personally.

More to the point, can you actually get that bike restricted to the correct amount? Thinking

I'm pretty sure that you can print off a bit of paper that says that you have.

To paraphrase slightly:

GUBMINT: Are you trying to show contempt for this law?

MAE WEST: I was doin' my best to hide it.
