I know there are a few comic fans on here, this post is a combined question and shameless plug
Having recently gotten back into reading things (most recently "Kabuki" and "Hellblazer") I'm looking for more current recommendations, I'll give pretty much anything a try.
On top of that, I decided to share this (awaits incoming spam ratings), it's a project being worked on by a good mate of mine and it's the main reason I've started reading such things again. He's funded the first three issues himself and is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to try and raise funds to finish the project after a recent change in circumstance precluded paying for it all out of his own pocket (even Eastern European artists ain't cheap ). If you're into action noir then take a look. ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |

I go to the library and browse and read comics from there, rather than buy them anymore. I generally read the ones where the artwork lures me in. I recently went to a party for Super-heroes / Super-villains, dressed as an homage to the late great Jack Kirby (my hero).
Sorry to be no actual help on the comic recommendation front. I just don't buy them anymore... ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Planetary is quite interesting; it's nominally part of the Stormwatch/Authority universe, although it only really makes cursory references to them.
The old Hellboy comics are well-scripted, although the story sometimes has gaping holes. The artwork is stylistically strong, and I rather like it. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

I'm not an expert on them, although I have read a few, mostly by a guy called Joe R Lansdale who, as a straight author, is one of my favourites.
I'll go and have a look at that kickstarter page later on (when I'm on a sensible computer) ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Cheers for the recommendations, some I've read and others definitely not. I've just found my collected works of Michael Joseph Lindsner as well
Exciting times, for anyone who backed the project on kick starter - thanks. It hit "funded" at eight pm last night. If anyone hasn't yet and wants to pre-order a promising book from an up and coming writer, take a look ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |

Of course, Slaine and Spawn...both superb comics stories (I read these ones for the stories), and I also liked Coven. Watchmen I preferred as a film (anime I think?).
Also, not in the same genre but comic and VERY funny, the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and Fat Freddy's Cat...superb reading. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |
