I know there are a few comic fans on here, this post is a combined question and shameless plug Laughing

Having recently gotten back into reading things (most recently "Kabuki" and "Hellblazer") I'm looking for more current recommendations, I'll give pretty much anything a try.

On top of that, I decided to share this (awaits incoming spam ratings), it's a project being worked on by a good mate of mine and it's the main reason I've started reading such things again. He's funded the first three issues himself and is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to try and raise funds to finish the project after a recent change in circumstance precluded paying for it all out of his own pocket (even Eastern European artists ain't cheap Laughing). If you're into action noir then take a look.

I go to the library and browse and read comics from there, rather than buy them anymore. I generally read the ones where the artwork lures me in. I recently went to a party for Super-heroes / Super-villains, dressed as an homage to the late great Jack Kirby (my hero).

Sorry to be no actual help on the comic recommendation front. I just don't buy them anymore... Neutral

Planetary is quite interesting; it's nominally part of the Stormwatch/Authority universe, although it only really makes cursory references to them.

The old Hellboy comics are well-scripted, although the story sometimes has gaping holes. The artwork is stylistically strong, and I rather like it.

Well, this should impress you. I know Alan Langford. One of the 2000AD freelance illustrators. He currently resides in the New Forest, and I have a handful of signed equestrian illustrations he gave me. Cool

I'm not an expert on them, although I have read a few, mostly by a guy called Joe R Lansdale who, as a straight author, is one of my favourites.

I'll go and have a look at that kickstarter page later on (when I'm on a sensible computer) Cool Thumbs Up

I'm currently catching up on The Boys. I really like anything by Garth Ennis so Preacher is always a win for me.

Not current but have you read much 2000AD

I was given a few of them (Slaine, The Red Seas, Sinister Dexter) and I thought that in some, especially Sinister Dexter, that the writing just couldn't match the standard of the amazing artwork.

I'd be very keen on getting the collected UK Transformers comics graphic novel, personally.

Cheers for the recommendations, some I've read and others definitely not. I've just found my collected works of Michael Joseph Lindsner as well Thumbs Up

Exciting times, for anyone who backed the project on kick starter - thanks. It hit "funded" at eight pm last night. If anyone hasn't yet and wants to pre-order a promising book from an up and coming writer, take a look Wink

the two book "Fury: My War Gone By" is a brilliant read

Also I'd recommend:
Y- the last man by Brian K. Vaughan (meanders in the middle but still good)

Ex Machina (also by the above with the same criticism)

Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis (a brilliant series which I think would go down well with the BCF crowd, crudely funny and also a scathing political commentary. )

Of course, Slaine and Spawn...both superb comics stories (I read these ones for the stories), and I also liked Coven. Watchmen I preferred as a film (anime I think?).

Also, not in the same genre but comic and VERY funny, the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and Fat Freddy's Cat...superb reading. Thumbs Up

I'll second that.

I don't go for graphic novs generally but liked 'The Mask' years ago, much better than the film. I see there's a related 'Walter' comic which I'll check out, I didn't know about that. Ta for the thread!
