Right.
I have focus st 2008 and a standard system. I'm looking tho fit a sub and amp and got all the kit and bought a high power out to RCA converter unit.
Now my problem is if I turn the bass down on the speakers it will turn it down on the sub.
Can I get a high pass filter/bass blockers to fit inline of the 4 speakers? And where from? Hada quick look and got a bit confused.

Thanks.

It can be done with a resistor in parallel with the speaker, and a capacitor in series with them both. If you google it, you will find the calculation to work out the cutoff frequency. (Think its Fco=1/(2*pi*R*C))

I personally haven't tried this with speakers, but have with other electronics

Bit of reading suggests you might be alright with just a capacitor in line with the speakers

Does the radio unit not have a dedicated out for a sub? If not, +1 for crossover.

this.

surely you're plugging your amp into the pre-outs on the stereo? if so it shouldn't really have an effect on the sub as that should have its own mono/bass controller.

im presuming your stereo doesn't have a lpf/hpf built in? i can just set mine on the stereo to filter bass out of the speakers but then it is an aftermarket one

On my sub you can control the bass via button/knobs on the box its self, which don't affect the bass in the 4 speakers. I assume you don't have this?

Thanks wilz

It's the standard head unit so doesn't have any pre outs. I'm linking the sub to the rear speakers.it then converts it for the amp so when the speaker bass is reduced the amp loses bass.
I've seen some kind of capacitor that goes inline but don't under stand which I need.
