Now my 2 year warrantys up, I can't decide whether or not to take the easy option and change the KTM oil and filters myself , or shell out 's for a 3rd stamp in my little book from my dealer who's 40miles away. Which equates to 160miles and a week later.
Does BCF massive think service stamps count for alot come selling/trading time on newerish bikes. Or is it a negligble selling point that a receipt for some motul and filters could satisfy?
I'm not planning on trading her up for another year at the earliest, and then it would be a 3 year old 5000ish miler, but when/if i do sell, I hope to think I thought through my choices while owning. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

Well that's providing you change the plastics back to stock 690's hold their value very nicely, they are always in demand. I would love to be able to justify getting another one. ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

If you want stamps just go to a decent local bike shop.
You know it doesn't have to be a dealer to keep the warranty happy? ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? I would prefer a self maintained bike - I'm pretty sure that the last BMW 'service' performed on my (BMW fleet) GS consisted of a stamp in the book and nothing else.
Receipts and/or pieces of the packaging in the service book, job done. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Takes ~15 mins to change the oil.
Assuming your running a water cooled bike, dropping the coolant and replacing might take half hour.
Going over the bike with an oily rag and some grease on a brush shouldn't take too long, spark plug out and replaced, on you go. Easily done early morning for you to go flashing around the lanes for the rest of the day
Would prefer that + receipts than some dealer telling me he has done it. |

should have mentioned i've only had it for the last 3-4 years so i haven't been forking out since new
might have been a different story if i had to but the previous owner had got it dealer serviced every year so it felt right to continue it (at least until 10 years, as mentioned)
i've probably spent £3-400 on the servicing. could have saved myself £60 a pop at a guess if i'd done it myself due to not worrying about labour so its not a huge amount really. that said, is a stamp in a book worth £60 extra a year?
depreciation wise.. mines a little different. my blade (954) is worth the same now as it was when i bought it. the joys of buying such a well regarded machine.. heh.
but yes, generally i agree one the value drops it is pretty pointless.
the irony is i can't see myself selling this bike ever.. at least not for a very long time so it's kind of a redundant reasoning that it'll look good come resale ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

Thanks for advice. It was obviously a no brainer . I've always done services myself on everything I've owned but thought as the bike was a bit newer maybe it might be an idea to pay a dealer, but clearly not.
It really is a big downside to warranty, the amount you have to give just to ensure its worth anything.
I'll use the genuine/recommended parts, and carry out as per KTM's specifications. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.
