Hi,

I currently own a 1997 Honda CBR 600 F3, and it's a piece. Got it from a kid that didn't know much when he bought it himself, so I'm left guessing. But I was curious what could be causing my Neutral light to keep showing up and then going away once I'm on the bike.

For instance, I start the bike up, let it sit there on its side stand. Then I go to get on it, and the Neutral light starts flickering, and the bike turns off because it then thinks it's in gear when it is in Neutral still. ( Never goes into first when this happens.)

Please tell me there's a way to fix this..

First port of call will be the neutral sensor switch. Your bike will have a series of safety features which recognise if the bike is in gear and/or if the side stand is down. This also connects with the clutch lever.

Check these out first.

Okay thanks!!

I'm pretty new to this all, do you know if there's a manual for these that I could find so I know where this stuff is located? Or like a diagram.

Get the haynes manual itl tell u everything, the switch is usually near the Sidestand and makes contact on/off when it's up or down.

When was the last time the oil was changed? Shitty oil frequently can cause neutral light faults

Does it turn off before you put it in first gear or after?

Maybe it's not charging properly and dying?

I have no idea when the last oil change was. I've only had the bike for a couple of months. And it is now stored away for the winter. The kid I had gotten the bike from didn't ask the guy he got it from very much. And the bike turns off as I get on it. So it is still in neutral. Not first. Sometimes I get lucky and it doesn't shut off. And sometimes it says it's in gear after it dies so it's hard to get it going again.

It's good practice to always do a full service on a bike/car when you get it. So you know that it's been done, and you can also start service intervals properly.

Yeah, at that time, I was making enough money to pay the loan weekly, and pay for gas. I figured since it being so close to winter, I was going to wait til riding season to start changing because I don't know what has been done.

That's not a bad idea really, considering the oil also ages pretty quickly, and in a 6 month change service on most vehicles, it would be a bit of a waste. As long as it has sufficient oil in it at the moment though.. Smile
