You're doing right, although it does kinda depend on the size of the roundabout. On big roundabouts move across once you're past the last exit before yours. On smaller ones you may not have enough time and the moving across and exiting are simultaneous.
I don't know what MarJay is thinking - stay on the inside all the way and then at the last second cut across the outside lane? That's a great way to get splatted by someone cutting up the inside even if you do a lifesaver. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

As long as there aren't traffic lights and/or lanes to show you where to be for your exit, then it doesn't really matter; as Jay said there shouldn't be anyone there.
https://www.the-instructor.com/160_roundabout.gif
The red car going to the exit at the top could have been further left, so as the blue car pulled off red was in the left lane - but it wouldn't matter as there should not be anyone there.
Standard highway code clause; I put "SHOULD NOT" for a reason, assume there is always someone there ____________________ Trev, now a biker?

There are four different instruction sets to be on the lookout for. You follow them in the following order of importance:
* Temporary roadworks / new signs that override old ones (this one's obvious)
* Road signs showing your exit
* Painted arrows on the ground
* Angle of your exit road, from your entry position
Your road sign might paint a different picture than the roundabout layout; it might tell you that your "3 o'clock" is actually a twelve and you need to stay in the left lane for that, so check your signs first.
If your exit is 3 o'clock, you move into the right hand lane, then indicate left as you pass the penultimate exit before your exit. As you pass that penultimate exit, that is when you perform your lifesaver and move over to the left in order to "block off" others from entering the roundabout.
Remember, don't move AS you are doing your lifesaver. Literally perform your lifesaver and THEN move, don't commit yourself until you have done this. Don't even tilt your bike to move until you have done your check, so if some nob in an audi or bmw has undertaken you, you can just keep going around the roundabout and try again - or if you're on a bigger bike, extremely easily out-accelerate him when turning off to reclaim your position.
Your next check is painted markings on the road surface. It'll usually show you a right arrow in the very right lane, but it may not, so this is your second check to put your mind at ease.
Finally, say there's no sign or road markings. At this point, if your exit road is exactly straight ahead of your entrance to the rounadabout, you use the left lane - NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. If it's your 1 o'clock, it's the right lane as anything past 12 o'clock is a right hand turn.
I have a roundabout near me where the exit is at 1 o'clock, but the roundabout sign draws it as straight ahead. You follow the instructions in the order I described above: roundabout sign first. Of course, use your common sense as well ____________________ Left the forum. |

Down the middle of the two, no big over emphasised movements like your lines show.
Lifesaver after the 2nd exit and then straight line for the exit |

I'd do red but on the test I suspect that green would be the one that they'd be after seeing you perform. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

This is the off camber roundabout of doom that i use everyday.
A mix of single and 2 lane exits.
I enter from the right lane of a 2 lane road, right lane all the way round, and exit into the single lane.
On the very rare occasions i am forced to use the left lane i've had to slam on due to people pulling out on me at the green circled bit.

This was always a fun one the first time you used it as you could go clockwise or anticlockwise round the large roundabout but scattered with mini roundabouts as you go.

On a bike?
The answer is: it depends on the roundabout and the traffic.
If there's no traffic, it doesn't matter as you can't cause another road user to change speed or direction.
If there's other traffic, you have to negotiate with it. Indicate as soon as it's unambiguous, big obvious lifesaver, heck, give a hand signal for giggles. But if there's something lurking in the outside lane (particularly a van, minicab, 4x4 or Micra), consider just riding around again rather than cutting across it, particularly on test. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I was always under the impression moving across to the outside lane before exiting would be the best option as it stops anyone from trying to cut you up, by taking control of the lane. I did this on my mod 2 and passed with only 1 minor, so either the instructor didn't give a shit or I was doing something right ;p
The only reason I questioned it was recently I was watching a DSA video and they turned off from the inside lane, straight across the outside lane, as Cansa would do.
(The 1 minor was not indicating on a spiral roundabout when taking the first exit, which I didn't realise you had to do, I thought since spiral roundabouts are laned then no indication was necessary ) ____________________ 2008 Honda CBR125 (sold) / Suzuki DL 650 V Strom (Current bike)
