Seems my visor on my HJC has broken (might be the mount on the helmet)

To try and avoid riding part of the 20 miles home open faced, anyone know of a bike gear shop not too far from Trafford park (I made it to work)?

I'm presuming HG Manchester to have shut since most others appear to have done

I would go with the plan of army surplus goggles however I have to wear glasses.

Just put gaffa tape where the visor would go - No windblast then.

This.

Make sure it is taught otherwise it will blow in and adhere to your eyebrows.

Cheers, think its the mount that's the issue, they don't seem to have the one for mine (HJC cs-14) so might be new helmet time.

Only had it since the royal jubilee weekend so about 18 months?

If its the little locking-piece that goes up and down when you move the lever, you can probably just superglue something to it to make sure the visor can't pop off.

Means you can't remove the visor again but you can still clean it and use it pretty easily to be honest. Did it with an old shitty Box helmet years ago and it lasted a year without further trouble.

When I open the visor the lugs on it twist in the mount instead of the mount rotating causing the visor to pop out.

The plastic of the mount has got a bit chewed by it happening which allows it to pop out.

There is a screw in the centre of the pivot so could put a longer screw through the visor and mount instead

Think I've caused it by pushing it fully open quickly when its steamed up

Just pop into any DIY/Tools supply/buiulders merchants and get a pair of safety specs.

I personally like the JSP "stealth" ones. Cost about £2.50. They fit very close to the face and so stop the wind very effectively.

I wear a pair under my visor anyway in case i need to flip it up due to helmet visors being utterly shit. The yellow ones are great for riding in low light conditions, ups the contrast.

Black sheep, what size are you?

You can borrow one of my helmets if you need to, i'm just near Trafford Retail park in Urmston. Don't go risking a journey without a visor.

If you can't find an alternative, PM me for contact details/address.

Thanks for the offer Dan,

I made it home due to there being no traffic when I left

If the visor is down it stays in, it's when opening there is a risk of it popping out.

As I wasn't queuing or filtering I was able to just put the visor down and make sure it was still in place before setting off and just not open it until I got home!

Stinkwheel,

As in my op, I'd just wear ski goggles or something if I didn't have to wear glasses.

I had the side mounts on my lid break the other day on the way back from the bike show. Ended up just taking the visor off. J&S had a replacement that I was able to get the next day.
