I had a similar situation coming home 1 afternoon.... scooter had broken down and I decided to stop and ask if he needed a hand.

All I had on me was a couple of screwdrivers, after a few minutes of faffing around it turned out the spark plug cap had fell off.... so it got a roadside bodge and I followed the rider for a couple of miles.. then he turned off in a different direction and hopefully made it home.

I've broken down a few times and never once had a biker stop (had a few cars ask if they could help), but I would still always stop and ask if the rider needed help

I had a rear puncture about 2 miles from the Quatt café. After looking for the puncture for about 5 minutes a van pulls up. he`s empty and has ramps, so I ride the bike in the back to the café and wait for the RAC while munching a bacon butty. I cannot remember the last puncture I had but if they all end like this it`s not to bad.
On the down side the repair done by the RAC leaked so I ended up getting new rubber.

When I was 17 I had my RS125 seize on the A23 coming of of Brighton. I managed to get the clutch in (rear wheel locked up) but ended up in centre of dual carriage way as concentrating on not falling off and fair inexperienced at the time.

Was in a real state and then a guy on a speed triple came past, slammed on the brakes and walks back to me. Bearing in mind this is the central bit not an easy place to stop, I explained the problem and that I had called the police as really had no other ideas and he helped me get it to the side of the road and even ran over with my helmet. From here I could call recovery (and the police to say it's all sorted).

Sounds silly now but back then this guy helped me out and think it's really important people can do the same for others.

I think what this guy does is very caring, good job!

I might have been cycnical once but the help I've had on my cycle has shown me that there are loads of genuinely helpful and kind people out there who are willing to help because they are basically decent.

I was stranded in the middle of nowhere having to walk barefoot after my chain snapped. My road cycling shoes don't allow me to walk in them. After 1h or so a car finally passed by as it was starting to get dark and I was shivering like crazy. The guy stopped to see how he could help. He told me to hold on and buggered off. 30 mins later he reappeared having emptied the boot of his car. Loaded up my bike and drove me home which took about 45m!. He wouldn't even come in for a cup of tea cos when he went home to empty his boot his dinner was on the table waiting for him.

The amount of cyclists I have seen stop to help other stranded cyclists is very high too. I've donated at least a dozen inner tubes and several chain links along the way myself. At the end of the day anyone who has been stranded or contemplated being stranded is likely to want to help.

Had a puncture on the RXS in the middle of Canterbury yesterday. Pissing it down with rain and blowing a gale. Had four different bikers and one pedestrian offer assistance (didn't actually need it but that's not the point).

Most parts of London you could be on fire and no one would piss on you. But elsewhere there are usually people who will stop, even if only to offer moral support and/or the lend of a mobile if it's needed.

Saw a good one recently - in Chatham. Young guy on a YBR125 managed to snap his key in his lock with it still on the bike. I returned to my bike (parked next to his) and we tried in vain to sort something out. Suddenly this fire engine stops over the road and one of the guys offered to cut the lock (cue him getting out this massive pair of cutters - could have cut the whole bike in half, never mind a cable lock Laughing ).

Sometimes help comes from unexpected sources.

You'd be surprised what some people will do for a bit of attention.

[Ponders getting a matching BCF tattoo Thinking]

I do stop to help out the bruvverhood, plugged a tyre once like a boss.

Although this one time, at GPZ500 camp, a twatsuitted couple on a 1200GS (what else?) put on their bad-smell faces and waved me off very snootily with the information that they were merely taking in the scenery and required no assistance, with a strongly implied "...from the likes of you." Utter rubbish.

Broke down on my bicycle many times in north, west, central, and a fair bit of south london and always had a heartwarming amount of people offer help & assistance.

I also always offer asistance to motorcyclists and cyclists when I see one stranded as I always carry a basic toolkit on me.

Not long after I first got into biking (about a month ot two), I had been having a bit of a ride around the island, when I decided it was time to pull over and have a break and a smoke. So I pulled over on a section of the coast road and was just finishing my cig, when this van comes past me. It then hits the brakes and I'm thinking to myself "That's strange". Then it starts reversing towards me. Now with me being born and bred in liverpool and also due to the fact there's not another soul around, I immediately fear the worst. I had my bunch of keys in my hand ready for a fight to stop my bike from being robbed.

Then out of the van jumps some bloke with a helpful smile on his face, offering to give me some help as he thought I'd broken down and was stranded. Embarassed After I explained that everything's fine and I was just having a rest, off he pops into his van and waves bye.

I've had a few instances of similar things happen since then but, I no longer get myself prepared to fight to the death. This way of life over here took some adjustment though. Laughing

I've stopped a couple of times, the spare litre of petrol in my pannier has been availed of about 3 times, and changed about 3 tyres for 2 elderlys and a woman with kids in the car, (I had to call my brother to find out how to lower the spare wheel cage on a Voyager)

All ways on the way home from a job, too busy on the way with one

OK, most parts of London when I lived there 20+ years ago, for clarification. Though on the few occasions I've been there since, most people seemed about the same as ever.

But bicycles and motorcycles are completely different. Cyclists are green etc, all the Boris hype shit. Bikers are the very work of Satan.

Having said that, I found cabbies to be far friendlier and more helpful in London than anywhere else. No idea why Laughing

Nothing wrong with that exact same approach if the scooter rider is fit and willing and opposite sex (unless he's a ghey of course, mustn't rule that out.). Embarassed

Did he have Ellie Goulding sat on the back?

A mate's wife ran out of fuel on her Honda Bros, as she had no idea how to work the tap and turn it to reserve, and a fellow in a van picked her up and gave her a lift home. Which was nice.
