The US postal service is facemeltingly slow. Brace yourself for a long wait. Also, be prepared for customs charges.

Just to double up on this, make sure the sender puts the correct (low value) on the paperwork.

I paid $15 for a used seat for my TS, UK customs refused to see the . in the $15.00 and therefore wanted a hefty wedge (£170 IIRC). Took me weeks of negotiating with customs to get them to realise they'd cocked up

I thought there was no duty or tax on used parts?

Also, a lot of the US sellers don't like the idea of telling porkies on the customs slip, even though the responsibility is down the the recipient Confused

That would be because the seller would be committing mail fraud in the US which is rather a big deal.

As I understand it, possibly wrongly, any customs discrepancy on a parcel arriving in this country is the responsibility of the recipient - as above. I dare say it may be different if you're exporting firearms or explosives but used bike parts............. nah.

You are right but you are also wrong. You seem to have a very strange view that this would only be a crime in this country, a customs declaration is a legal document and as it would be a US customs declaration they would be signing...

Quote:
18 U.S.C. § 1341 provides:

Whoever, having devised or intending to devise any scheme or artifice to defraud, or for obtaining money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises, or to sell, dispose of, loan, exchange, alter, give away, distribute, supply, or furnish or procure for unlawful use any counterfeit or spurious coin, obligation, security, or other article, or anything represented to be or intimated or held out to be such counterfeit or spurious article, for the purpose of executing such scheme or artifice or attempting so to do, places in any post office or authorized depository for mail matter, any matter or thing whatever to be sent or delivered by the Postal Service, or deposits or causes to be deposited any matter or thing whatever to be sent or delivered by any private or commercial interstate carrier, or takes or receives therefrom, any such matter or thing, or knowingly causes to be delivered by mail or such carrier according to the direction thereon, or at the place at which it is directed to be delivered by the person to whom it is addressed, any such matter or thing, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both. If the violation occurs in relation to, or involving any benefit authorized, transported, transmitted, transferred, disbursed, or paid in connection with, a Presidential declared major disaster or emergency (as those terms are defined in section 102 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5122)), or affects a financial institution, such person shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or imprisoned not more than 30 years, or both.[2]

Read it closely and realise that you are wrong, then read it again and realise you are asking the person to risk 20 years then feel free to tell us yet again (well it would be again if you had said the numerous other times you were wrong) that you are wrong.

HTH Thumbs Up

And how would they get caught?

I did edit while you were posting.

Items leaving a country are often opened in the country they are leaving as well as the country they arrive in.

Sorry are you now admitting you were wrong and that it is a crime and one considered a serious one?

For new jets, try Allens Performance

Ahhh so customs mistaking the $15 for $1500 wouldn't have made a difference.

Seconding Allens as I've used them a few times and they're fantastic. Always willing to help and extremely knowledgeable.

Ooh yeah.......... really serious Rolling Eyes I think US border officers have more serious shit to worry about than someone declaring too low a value on 20 bucks worth of used bike parts.

What's up, nobody else to pick on and try and belittle tonight?

Paranoid much?

Vincent, you come out with statements that are just totally fallacious and then complain you are being picked on when called on it. One would have hoped that by your age you would have grown up a bit, you've let your family down on that one.

US Customs Service, do you think customs fraud might possibly, just possibly be within their purview?

I got an "Awesome Employee of the Quarter" award from a US company I was working for remotely at the time.

They sent the award in the mail.

I ended up having to pay 20 GBP or so to get this lump of acrylic delivered!

What's wrong with sickpup's usage of the words fallacious and purview? They're both contextually correct.

So copy pasting words into Google is beyond you as well? I'd give up now, if that's the case.

That would be cunnilingus but would explain your lack of getting blown if you don't know what fellatio is.

I did get an A at English Language 'O' level (and two years early) but to be fair to Vincent, I can't remember the last time I saw 'purview' used in any context other than to get a high score at Scrabble.
