PostPosted: 02:06 - 29 Dec 2013    Post subject: BCF jolly into Europe? June 2 -6th 2014 Reply with quote

I'm planning on another trip and I won't let having a stroke ruin this one, even if one of you has to tie my corpse to your pillion seat.

Looking at 2nd June 2014 (was 5th may)
Changed to suit more people who couldn't do the May date.
If anyone has already booked time off or any of the rooms or tunnel, let me know and i can revert to original plan

As long as nobody has, this date will not be changing again.

Longer than the trip last year which was a quick jolly to lille and 2 nights out.

I've compiled some prices below after online enquiries

The route and places i've chosen are for ease and low cost of rooms plus the variation of activities that can be found in the areas, plus it means the trip will take in France, Belgium, Netherlands? and Germany.

so, £300 est plus food, drink and spending money for a 5 day trip into euroland

880 miles total mileage for the 5 day round trip based on leaving from Salisbury

As usual, this won't be a race but a steady ride to where we want to be with various stops for photos, food and peeing in hedges
500cc+ bike as there will be a decent motorway mileage involved but if time allows we will leave motorways to take in some of the local roads on route to and from the tunnel, during the week it should be all local roads.

What I propose I will be doing

Monday 2th June.

Eurotunnel
Departing from: Folkestone to Calais | Monday 02 June 2014 14:20

Returning from: Calais to Folkestone | Friday 06 June 2014 17:50 * CHANGED FROM 14:20
£48 total. if you stay one night extra, returning saturday it'll be about £72

(Tunnel has gone up and is currently £52)

(as of 8th April Tunnel has gone up again and is currently £58)

Even if it is 25c outside it'll be damn cold inside so pack to allow for this.
Small snack bar outside for limited drinks etc.

-----------------------------------

Any other outings to be arranged or just turn up and see what happens.

You are of course under no obligation to do all or any of the night stays or excursions.

If you want to go to lille for the night and do your own thing from then on, you are more than welcome.

Any suggestions as to places to visit/stop etc are most welcome.

For legal, insurance and other bullshit red tape reasons, this will NOT be an organised ride out.
I intend doing this trip and am inviting you all to join me at your own risk, I will of course help with any bookings and other stuff if you need it but everything is down to you, you can stay with the group if you want, you can go off on your own and do your own thing, I'm having my holiday, you are having yours. They are just at the same place at the same time.

While on the road, do not push yourself or take any chances to keep up, there will be a tail rider behind you at all times and if you do get yourself lost, call me and i'll come looking for you, you make your own riding decisions, make sure they are good ones.

Lille is only 65 ish miles from calais, could get to there, stop overnight and head back in the morning, easy trip, well signposted back to calais as well.

You can kind of spread the cost, book the tunnel this week, book first hotel a couple of weeks later etc, just make sure they still have rooms available but if they do get overbooked there are hotels not too far away at similar prices

That is one way to put it.
They are cast concrete I would say.

clean basic rooms with a sink, tv, power points and beds to sleep 3.

Showers and toilets are always less than 10 metres from the room

For £20- £30 per night it suits me and the money I want to spend, like you say, it's a bed.

If anyone wants to come and wants to pay double or more per night so they have a toilet and shower in the room and a kettle, there is usually an accor hotel next door to the F1's

edit: --

The F1 in Thionville has a Ibis budget next door at £40 per night. It has a toilet in the room but it doesn't mention a shower,
The downside to a cheap but slightly posher hotel is the area is a shithole and I'd rather sleep in a bus stop in Calais than leave my bike there. Laughing

Not far from the place I'm staying for the 3 nights in Metz is a novotel but it's £75 per night, that is more per night than I'll be paying for the 3 nights in a F1.

I've changed the date to June.

This should mean better weather and also the dates should suit more people.

I've edited the plan on my op.

Nice idea although I couldn't do it on my present bike, 100 miles plus and I lose all sensation from my ass down. Wouldn't be safe being numb in the behind around some of these folks.

Hi, I am hoping to do my first euro trip this year, as I finally got around to getting my bike licence and its has alway been on my to do list.
I posted on here about it and someone gave me this link, as my intention was to pay for a guided trip that included hotel etc.
My main concerns in going on a group trip is how much daily mileage and to have my own hotel room.
Your trip looks great would it be Ok if I can get the time off at work to join you?, I live in West Sussex

Of course you can have your own room, you can even stay in a posher hotel near the ones I'm staying in, the choice is yours.
I only suggest the possibility of sharing to save people money if they are on a budget like I usually am but there is no commitment to do so.

The biggest daily mileage will be the Friday back to calais which is 280 miles. 4 hours.

It won't be done in one chunk as it's not a rush. 4 lots of riding for an hour is no big deal for anyone I imagine.
There is also no commitment to stay as one group, people can go off on their own, as smaller groups or you can all bugger off together and leave me to it.
If 280 is, in your mind (in your mind is the only issue) then you could do 150/200 miles and find somewhere to stay for the night.
I've suggested mon to fri as it is the cheapest option for a bit of a holiday.

Whatever you do is fine.

I dont mind staying in the same place as everyone else, just dont fancy sharing.
I would of thought I could ride all day and enjoy it with regular breaks, it was the guided tour that ssuggested low mileage for first time tours.
So where do I go from here then, Do I need to book the rooms tunnel etc?

You need to book the tunnel and rooms as above but leave it a week in case anyone has already booked for the May dates I had originally planned on and need to change it back.

The cut off date is the day before but the tunnel will cost more, if there are still spaces and the rooms may well be booked since it is holiday season..

Book as early as you can, feb 'should' be ok. If rooms/tunnel are booked up when you come to book, I'm sure waiting for a following train or guiding you to a nearby hotel will be no big deal.

I fancy this.

Went 2 up to Bruges for the day via EuroTunnel, wasn't too bad. Possibly the Mrs too, but unsure. Will commit at the end of the month, when if it's on, I'll book everything. TBH, I'd probably be ok on my own anyway, if the itinerary is there and hotels booked you don't have to figure it out yourself.

I'm near Croydon BTW. Tunnel is just over an hour for me Laughing perhaps longer on a sensible day.
