Hi guys,

I was hoping you could help me out with a problem I am having a problem with my bike.
I own a 2010 Honda CBR 125 (fuel injected) with 11k miles on it. It was serviced by the dealer on the 3rd Dec 2013.

The bike started dying on me in the past few weeks - at first it wouldn't start sometimes and now it cuts off while i ride. Today when I was riding at 40 mph the bike just cut off and then wouldn't start. When I pressed the start button the FI light would come on and when I took my thumb off it it would disappear.

Once I got to a clear stretch of road I put it into second gear and bump started it and it worked. Thats why I am baffled as to what could be wrong. I don't want to take it to the dealer as they charge £60 for an hour which is a bit much for me at the moment.

So far this this is what I have done:

>Check the fuel lines and fuel cap
>Ensured that theres a vacuum in the tank
>Added Redex to the fuel as I thought the injectors are dirty
>Check the breather hoses
>Check the fuses

Please could you tell me what the possible cause is and how I would repair it?

Thank you.

Your battery? Checked the leads are done up tight, no corrosion, is it charged and/or charging correctly.

As Paddy's said, i'd be looking at the battery condition & probbably also having a bit of a poke round the fuse box/wiring connectors round the motor. Possibly adding a bit of WD40 if i had it to ensure the connectors stayed water free

Yeah that could be it. I have been riding in the rain quite a lot. Okay, I will apply WD40 to the battery tomorrow and check that all wiring is ok and then wirte an update.

Thank you.

I'm not 100% sure on how it is with the CBR 125 but the CBF 125's have a common fault of the fuel pump not working. I bought a 13 plate and the fuel pump went on me in a couple of weeks but seems like the same problems take the to the dealers and ask them hopefully they will have a cheap easy fix

Won't be the pump otherwise you'd have a massive recall, 1 model isn't nearly enough for Honda, clearly. Laughing

I have checked the wiring for any kinks or cuts and applied wd40 to the battery terminals to eliminate water.

Paddy, I think you were right that this is an electrical problem. Yesterday I was riding in the rain and at stop lights when I pulled the clutch in the bike kept cutting off. This happened several times yesterday until it stopped raining. Was embarrassing when I had to bumb start it in the Tesco car park.

Thinking about a "ghetto" fix, covering the battery and wiring with a plastic bag, would that be ok?

I personally wouldn't!

Go to b and q and get yourself a multimeter for a fiver, post back when you have it.

Ask for one with a continuity tester (might be more expensive) Thumbs Up

If the wiring from the ignition switch is routed wrong it can get pinched by the steering lock, then short out on the headstock. All of the electrics suddenly die as if the key had been removed.

Got the bike back today whole front end is gone + side fairings. Might convert it to a street-fighter. Engine starts, but revs to 9k on its own with no throttle input.

looks good but the electrical tape kills the look. Some plastic housing and it will look topnotch! imo

Got 6 months to work on this bike slowly.

Fuck that, it was slow and shit, I got a new bike. Laughing

Don't get twin lights, buy yourself a single 7 inch round light. Even better, fix it to its normal standard.

Does anyone know where I can order the parts from?

If I get it from the dealer the fairings alone will cost me £200.

Don't know how much the headlights are and a new dashboard and front headligh frame (old one got bent)
