New rider insurance

Hey, im new to the forum and to motorcycling. Ive been looking at insurance quotes and my cheapest is with MCE £221 for third party only, and £247 for fire and theft with an excess of £750.

Am i right in thinking its pointless going with fire and theft with an excess of £750 when my YBR125 cost me 1k?

Pretty much mate, chances are the insurance company would only value your bike around the £750 mark anyway so not worth it in the end, better to invest in decent security like a proper chain, alarm etc.

What kind of chain have you got?, bear in mind the cheaper end chains are really easy to break with a bolt cropper.

If you can afford to lose your bike ( that is to just replace it) then just get the cheapest quote. If like me you can afford to buy another bike, it wouldn't be easy but it is doable, I would only ever make a claim if it had to happen from a crash

If you want top end look at buying an almax chain, from what iv seen/heard their the hardest to break.
Btw all this advice is coming from someone that has an oxford alarm disc lock and thats it

125s are actually stolen more often than 600cc bikes.

It's more of an opportunistic theft. They are usually taken over the local field to entertain chavs.
