For those that still think theres not much difference between a 600cc and 1000cc heres your real life proof that there is no contest between the 2 in a straight line

Ah I do miss having litre sports bikes.

It's videos like this which more or less prove the theory that car-guys like to talk utter bollocks when they think their MR2, Impreza, Evo, M3 etc etc, can out-pace R1's etc.

They truly are in a league of their own.

(Obviously, we can all go find a £150,000 modified Skyline on Youtube that'll beat a £2400 bike, but that's different).

Obvious winner is obvious.

It's like saying there is no difference in a race between a dwarf and Linford Christie over 100m.

They appear to have gotten the year wrong. The only R1 capable of 528mph is the 98 R1.

the R6 only kept up as the R1 was holding back but when he let rip you can see he disappeared into the nether vortex.

i have seen people say there is not much difference between the 2 cc's but only those who have had no experience from riding both at speed in a straight line and read text book figures believe that

on a race track with lots of bends and few straights the R6 might go faster round the track.

only time i ever did those speeds in a t shirt and jeans was one hot summer when i was very upsett and pissed off that i just didnt give a fuck.
i would never ever ever do that now too much to lose like not being able to play world of warcraft cos id be dead Very Happy

At those speeds, no kit would make an ounce of difference if you came off.

Normally lap times are pretty close - rider skill is more likely to be the bigger factor taking any two riders.

Speedo was out - presumably downgeared for a start.

I suspect the current BMW I've got, which I've still hardly driven on the road, would be a match for a litre bike up to the car's top speed - it's not restricted, but will be by gearing.

I've come off (racing practice, on a straight) at over 100mph certainly and ridden the bike back (albeit missing a few bits). On the road there tends to be more stuff to hit, however.

Oh and why the speed, but no filtering Thumbs Down.

Disagree.

Think pete on here (could be in my head) has come off his bike at very very high speeds close to those in the video.

While in 99% of cases your dead either way but if by chance you end up sliding and not hitting anything then I'd rather take those chances wearing some gear rather than none.

Yup 132.9mph through the speed trap as I came off. I had a tiny little red mark about the size of a 10p piece on my elbow from friction heat. Leathers were pretty trashed and my crash helmet has scratches in about eleventy different directions.

180 if correct on a road to 130 ish on a track/strip are different though. Leathers will help for sure, but the speed may make a difference along with cars etc...

The sound from the helmet at 130 to 150 odd to me feels very different. I am not sure if I broke the sound barrier and sonic boomed, but yeah.

Laughing

It's not just you. Of course it may just be the vid, but that bike sounds like my dog, and she's a whiney little bitch.
Although currently I'd argue that all inline fours sound like her, compared to the proper bark of a single Laughing.

Surely this thread is a bit of a no brainer.
(Obviously I belong here then Wink)

No, its just a really lazy bike that can reach warp speeds with no effort. Anyone can ride an R1 fast.
