When abroad, as a British citizen it's a mandatory requirement for you to set off every speed camera. |

France.
If the Gendarmes catch you with a mobile unit and stop you, they will fine you, but at present there is no system in place to put points on your licence.
If you're flashed via a speed camera, they will not trace you and send you a ticket ( unless you were doing some ridiculous speed ) it's not worth the bother.
If you're caught above 50 km over the top, the WILL fine you, heavily, and they CAN impound your bike, it would be up to the Gendarmes discretion at the time who stopped you.
If you ride at some ridiculous speed over the top, and they stop you, you're in deep crap.....kiss goodbye to your bike, wife, family...it's Devils Island for you matey.
When you enter a French town / Village there will be a sign with the name on it. From that sign on in, until the exit sign at the other end of the Ville, it's a 50 km limit, that's where most traps will be, just as you enter, and leave. The French motorists / truck drivers are pretty good at letting you know there are traps about, but with little traffic around, you don't always get a warning...
However, I've been here 10 years, don't ( within reason ) hang about, and never been stopped, just use common sense. ____________________ Prendre garde au temps entre le chien et le loup

I got stopped in France about five years ago for doing 90 in a 90 zone. Monsieur popo was not a happy bunny, the only car for miles when he strides out from behind a haystack to stop it, and it's an ignorant Englishman.
He had an understandable rant which increased in tempo and volume and whilst my French isn't great I had a pretty good idea of what he was saying. With lots of jabbering on his part and me nodding pointing at 90 every time he said Quatre-vingt dix repeatedly (In MPH ) he eventually shrugged his shoulders, looked mighty pissed off and waved me on my way.

I got a letter from europcar today saying I was speeding in their hire vehicle just over a year ago, and I shouldn't have ignored their letter 6 months ago.
I'm planning to ignore it some more probably, as I imagine the fines plus fees of europcar and the time will be excessive by now. Google suggests the only problem is that if you drive there again they might run your driving licence and get pissy. I sorta need clarification on this as I'm planning to ride to the Monaco GP. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

Would that be 90MPH in a 90KPH zone?

The only problem as I see it, is that Europcar will probably have your credit card details on record, and as part of the T`s & C`s of the hire agreement could impose a surcharge on your card to cover the fines |
I cancelled the card a few weeks after the trip, changed to a different one for some reason. I've not heard anything from the card company, but I'll ring them tomorrow and check. I've been doing some googling that says I should either pay, or not expect to be able to drive in France anytime soon.
Found this too : https://www.historicracer.com/editors-diary/caught-speeding-in-france-big-fines/ which is amusing but a bit scary. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |
