I hope someone can help me out with some advise. I have just purchased a set of mini indicators for my 1997 DT125R. When i'd finished fitting them they wouldn't flash. Then i re-fitted my standard ones and hey presto..............they flash!!! Quite obviously a compatibility issue. Does anyone have a fix for this????

Wotcha.

Check the wattage, it's stamped on the bulb somewhere.
Standard ones will be rated at 21 watts, the mini ones will be about 10 watts or less.

They should do

When you say they do not flash do you mean they do not illuminate at all or they are permanently on, but just not flashing, if the latter then a bulb change will do the trick, if the former, I do not know.

Most mini indicators... have crap bulbs in them and are 10 w and usually dont work on a bike straight off i would personally change the bulbs and then it should work with no problems...

You could always go up a size in bulb, maybe 23w depending on the bulb type, I have some old minis here with 23w ba9s in them, worked well from memory.

Wotcha.

Looks like they did you a favour - bulbs are cheaper and easier to replace than the flasher unit Laughing besides, a brighter (23 Watt as opposed to a 5 Watt ) is a definite bonus too.

That depends on where you buy the unit from. A normal flasher unit may only be a few quid, but most bike shops like to take advantage and charge a lot more for a 'special' flasher unit that can cope with low wattage bulbs.

To someone who knows what they are doing, electrical-wise, then maybe it is easier to change the flasher, but if you don't know where / what the thing looks like, then changing bulbs would be the best option.

Daz, I know what you mean. When i posted on here regarding a 125 i expected replies from 17 year olds but it seems everyone is more mature like ourselves (old gits). Anyway i bought the DT a couple of months ago to do a bit of green laning, as of yet its only seen tarmac. All the tracks we used to use when we were 17 have now turned into housing developments or been blocked off. I can see you are into that sort of bike aswell, any ideas where to go for a bit of off road fun??

lone wolf your point is taken m8.
ben i dont think their is to many places left for green laning m8 but i was going to try and find some routes up on clent hills in the spring maybe some of the old mountain bike tracks are still left with a bit of luck, if not looks like going a bit further out maybe we can both go and look fools getting shouted at by some angry farmer Wink [/i]
