Anyone got one of these f5 boxes, you can get one with a 12 month subscription to all sports and movies including setanta sports and BT sports for circa £100 off fleabay. It works by connecting it to your modem and your existing sky dish.

I sell them. but not that cheap because I use a less overloaded server.

You'll find those boxes will glitch/lag/freeze due to people over selling subscriptions thus overloading the server.

I have 2 work mates that paid £110 from the same buyer with no problems. How long do you reckon they will last?

Depends on subscriber, a lot of them set up a server, get as many subscriptions as possible, then do a runner. Then set up under another name and start again.

So is this like the old card sharing only using a server to update the nagra decoding online via a private server?

I take it the box would only be able to receive/ decode premium channels whilst the server has an active full package subscription feeding it the decoding data.

i got mine off lllN30lll and it's good, the biggest hassle was getting the dish sorted, i mounted it myself foolishly thinking it would pick up a signal without a scanner Laughing

the odd time it will come up as 'scrambled' but it's not for more than a couple of seconds and it probably does it once an hour, but i'm not sure if thats down to my shitty internet connection or not as i only get around 2mb download and 0.4 upload at best

i just hope there isn't a way sky or whoever can stop it?
i'm not 100% sure how it all works exactly but i wonder if these get more popular they'll clamp down on it?

Sounds like a cheap version of the Dreambox. A genuine subscriber such as lllN30lll has their Sky card plugged into one of these F5 boxes and sends the decryption keys (that the card generates) in real time over the web to whoever else, allowing the signal to be decrypted on their end also.

No real way of stopping it as long as Sky don't do away with the card system and the person sharing keeps their subscription. Only time I had an issue with mine was if the internet went down.

I'm glad some other companies have started making these boxes as for a while it was only a couple and for a genuine one it was very expensive.

Yeah was a bit slow and a hassle to configure. Shame I live in rented accommodation now, I'd like to try one of these out!

How often is the decryption data updated these days?

I remember a discussion ages ago about cancelling the subscription then blocking certain ip's or web address's or something to stop card being cancelled and getting upto 3 months worth of premium service for free.

Would this be the same set up with the nagra being stored in the box so you wouldn't know if the server is out for a while only when channels start dropping out as the nagra is updated network wide for each channel?

Does the server need to be setup and programmed into the box before sale or can the server address be updated manually and server access be granted by the box's mac address, letting people buy server access from other people.

So it requires internet? Is that just to recieve the codes etc or is it used for streaming?

Also roughly how fast of an internet connection would you need to use the box happily? Sometimes I get as low as 0.16mbps...

You need a good broadband connection and a sky dish is all I know.

Internet is required to receive the decryption codes. No video streaming involved (video signal comes in through dish as usual). The speed of your internet isn't really a factor since all that is sent over the web is the codes which is not a large amount of data, however the stability of the connection is more important. If your connection drops off for say 3 seconds, that's 3 seconds where your picture will freeze. So if you had a stable connection that was half a megabit you would probably be fine! But an unstable 60mbit connection would be worse.

Needing live decryption would suggest the codes are constantly rolling which I can't imagine being the case.

Otherwise the server would need to know what channel you are watching to determine what code you need at that time.

The server guy would know when your watching porn Laughing Laughing

It is the case, otherwise why would you need to have a broadband connection once the stream had started? The person sharing the codes can't determine what you are watching. Each card will automatically enable you to view FTA and FTV channels, and in the case of a subscription additional access flags will be sent over the air to allow the card to generate decryption codes for the subscription channels. With card sharing the software will send over all of the codes for all of the channels in real time, allowing anything to be watched.

Sometimes it says scrambled, but mostly it just keeps freezing for a split second. Fecking annoying!
