Hi guys,

Hope you can help. I have a subwoofer that uses the wire connections as show in the picture, them ones that you press a toggle and insert a copper wire and leave go so it holds it.

But my amp only takes this kind of cable connection.

How do I make it work?

sounds like you have a passive sub (non amplified) and are trying to connect it to a 5/7/9.1 amplifier?

you can buy wire with a phono on one end and loose wires on the other but I find these adaptors to be much neater

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-UTP-CAT5-CAT6-Speaker-Wire-to-Audio-Video-Phono-Male-RCA-Connector-Jack-Plug-/390644683976?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item5af43cd4c8

Just make sure you wire them up in the correct polarity to your speaker

If your amplifier only has a single phono out for the sub then chances are it is set up for a single voice coil speaker, how many pairs of wires are on the sub 1 or 2?

Is your sub powered/active? Does it have it's own mains power plug? Then it will normally take one or two of the co-ax connectors shown in your second picture. These pre-amp connections only output an audio signal and the amplifier in the sub will "push" the speaker.

If there is no built in amplifier in the sub (passive) then you will need the specific powered outputs for the sub, like you have for your speakers. Most AVRs wont. Those will put out a powered AC current to move the speaker.

You can get sub-woofer amplifiers that you would chain AVR > sub amplifier > subwoofer. But you'll get better sound and save money getting a decent powered sub. Most people will agree that active subs will beat passive any day.

Pretty sure it doesn't have a power cable. I do have a pretty decent amp though... would that not power the sub quite well?

Thanks for the info.

your amp wont power the sub at all as its expecting you to have an active one.
