Hello,
I've tried a million different motorcycle comparison websites and the options only ever seem to be full or provisional. I have an A2. The closest i have found has been an A license and an A light.

Which option should i be selecting?

I had this problem… I selected 33bhp when getting a quote, called up the insures and asked them to change it to 47bhp before taking out the policy… my policy went up by £10 extra a year with 47bhp instead of 33bhp.

Edit: Doh! read your question completely wrong. I'd select A license and then call the company I chose to go with and confirm with them that you're on an A2 license.

Have been insured on wicked quotes, i'm on the 33bhp licence, when I first got my Bandit back in 2012 I rang them explaining I was on a restricted licence and if they required any proof.. Was told to put full licence, and they didn't want any proof.. so from then on i've always just put the full licence.

He probably clicked on engine modifications then selected 33bhp

You can do the same on yours.

In short, I use Gocompare.

Full license,
Engine modification, 33 bhp, you'd select 47bhp obviously.

Adds about £200 to my quote, not mentioning it next year. Insurance is £300 next year Very Happy

If they don't ask, you don't tell!

well not quite in legitimacy terms but if they ask a DIRECT question, and limit you to just two options, you're more than entitled to go with the one that's most befitting your circumstance.

An A2 licence is a full licence, you've passed your test and are licenced to ride the bike you're insuring. If they state full or provisional, then the answer clearly isn't provisional. If they've not stipulated or specified any follow up to that then you're more than able to take the view they're not interested. If they were interested, they'd have asked the question properly (ie not been lazy b's and updated their question set to take into account the 'new' licencing laws)

An A2 licence is technically a full licence, just with a restriction. I'd always answer full.

This, except GoCompare doesn't give you the option to select 47bhp. So I selected 33bhp and amended my quote over the phone.

I've never told my insurers I was restricted, infact out of the two times I've had restricted insurance only once did they ask me to verbally confirm (wicked quotes) that I had installed a restrictor and was riding within the requirements of my license.

As far as I could see on my insurance certificates it just states something along the lines of "You confirm all the information you have given to be true and that you are riding a bike within the requirements of your license, failure to do any of the above means you are uninsured.... blah de blah" so I just always made sure my bike was restricted and despite being insured to ride other bikes I always refused to ride a bike more powerful than I was permitted to ride

tl;dr - Never asked to confirm license type, use common sense when riding and using restrictors
