AMD Not a good plan for video editing!!
For £300 I'd say buy something off the shelf or build your own using second hand parts.
I've recently 'upgraded' my 5Ghz i7 six core with hyperthreading to a £30 2.7Ghz dual core and it's painfully slow if I ask it to do anything. |

Why not? that's what the fake cores where good at when it was released (bulldozer or whatever) unless i've been misinformed as per usual? ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

what software are you using??
does it do more than 4 threads - most likely not - software engineers havent cought up with core counts yet.
i would be looking at software before pulling the trigger on any hardware. HDD asides, there is no point spening £300 on a 8 core CPU able to run 16 thread at 2.7 GHZ if the software will only run 2 threads. if that were the case you may well be better off spending £80 on a good dual core and decent mother board and clocking it to within an inch of its life. it will be cheaper to clock the dual core as it will take less cooling, less power demands on the mobo and PSU
i would also use more RAM, alot more RAM, then look into ram disk, it will speed things up a treat. as an idea some will allow upto 8.5GB/s through put where sata will only maybe get to 3GB/s read on a good day (although sata 3 is rated for upto 6GB/s) with a heavy duty raid controller. last time a saw it took something like 20 SSDs to reach 2GB/s.
you need to be looking at way more than the adviced 8GB for RAM, i have had 8gig for nearly 8 years now, and with the increased amount of image editing i am doing now am finding that 8gig is getting close when loading 100+ 24mp raw images when batch editing and 200 shot focus stack, while doing all the other normal stuff you do while waiting for things to happening (you know checking email, playing half life 2 for the 10 mins)
it not how much you have to spend, its about spending it the right place depening on your application ____________________ Current rides - 2016 Triumph Street Triple Rx, 1994 Suzuki Bandit 400 VM, TGB 204 Classic 125cc
