Learn to read map before setting off. Put phone in pocket and enjoy not being bothered by gadget.

Thumbs Up

I've used a few in my time, tried the cheap options but they just don't cut it. After quite a few different things, I've come to the conclusion that RAM mounts are the way to go.

Its very sturdy, vibrations very low, completely universal, and if you go with the way I did it, waterproof and will hold a variety of items.

See this vid I made to show it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XW3WacL2Kk

Also check out the RAM website for different fittings depending on where you want to fit it to your bike.

A waterproof GPS case with a sponge inside it work just as well as anything.

But you'll do better leaving both gps and phone in your pocket until you've stopped somewhere. Give the road and all the other plonkers on it your 100% focus dude!

I find that there is no need to look at the screen when sat-naving. I just put it in my pocket and put some earphones in...

So, then instead of an iphone mount, you now need a waterproof map with mount, or a map with waterproof mount.
The phone seems like the solution that will give you less 'bother' Wink.

I have this on my CBF 125 for the iphone 4s: https://www.ultimate-mobiles.co.uk/Vehicle_Accessories/Motorcycle_Accessories

I did once see it as a bundle but can't be asked to search through and find each part. Basically has a waterproof case which clips onto a handlebar mount. It also has a water proof charging cable.

Works great however I know have a Galaxy S4 so need to buy a new case and charger but the mount should be the same for different cases. I've never had a problem with it falling off or anything and the case does what it says and keeps the water out. I still have access to the hear phone port too which is normally got a rubber plug in it when not in use.

I once got lost soon after passing my CBT about 15 miles away from home and back then didn't have the mount so I just brought up a navigation app and set it up for getting me home then wedged it in between my head and the cheek pad of the helmet so I could easily hear it say "turn left in 100 yards" etc. I also didn't have my ear phones on me so this was the best option at the time. Confused

I bought one of these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281171860533

and its been great.
Used it mounted to both the handlebars and the wing mirror stem on my VFR 800.

Stayed nice and waterproof, vibration is acceptable and screen works fine though the plastic.

Used for pleasure and while blood biking and still going strong after 6 months.

Nice cheap solution.

You soon going to be deaf if you can't hear sounds out of ear plugs over ambient noise.......

You may find that turning up the output sound on the phone helps.

Personally I have had phone conversations at NSL (speakers in helmet) not ear plugs..... Both ends can hear and talk fine. Listen to music and sat nav. As well as still hearing what is going on around me.

ambient noise?! maybe i charge around at high revs and only hear clearly when slowed down. sods law i turn it loud to compensate and then its too loud when in traffic

You only need sat nav's in area's you are unsure of.

So you should be riding/driving in a far more careful manner to give yourself chance to react to any instructions.

And he could do exactly the same thing with a map on a phone screen - which would be more convenient.
Now, if he could just find a way to attach that phone screen to his bike, it'd be ideal Razz.

So become another prat who follows a sat nav and ends up causing havoc.....

Same would have happened if you'd planned a route from a map without considering motorways and followed that route.
