Laptop charger needs more meat?

Just got a redonkulously large battery for my netbook 10400mAH (stock is 2200mAH), as expected charging with the stock charger (19V, 1.58A) is taking forever.

If I buy an Acer charger designed for bigger laptops (19V, 3.42A) will the end result be faster charging or is the max charge current limited by circuitry in the laptop?[/u]

1040mAH is less/smaller than the stock one you stated....

if you made a typo, think of the capacity as a bucket, you've bought a bigger bucket, pouring from the same tap at the same amount will take longer.

also higher amp charger will be fine as long as the voltage is the same, it'll be like opening the tap a bit more so will charge quicker

Yep that's what I thought, as long as the volts are correct, the laptop will just draw what it wants to draw.

I should probably have added 'within reason' however I'd imagine 3.4 would be fine.

may I just add i'm not an expert and may find it amusing if your machine bursts into flames as that's how I roll

AFAIK the power supply can't simply force more amps "down the pipe" as it were without increasing the voltage. As the voltage is 19V in both cases, the current is going to be based on the laptop wanting to draw current.

I'd imagine that the charge circuitry of the laptop has overcurrent and thermal-cutout protection on the Li-ion charging board.

Think of a bike battery and a car battery, lighting up a headlight bulb. There are the same voltage yet the car battery is capable of supplying way more amps than the bike battery. Both can be used to power a bulb safely as the current is not dependant on the battery but the resistance of the bulb (the load).

I know how they work but a flat battery will pull all the power it can until the charging circuit falls or goes on fire...
