Hi,

I'm looking at getting some Oxford panniers for my tour through Europe in the Spring back to Norway. I have a 2002 CBR 600 FS and wondered if there is a particular type that work well. For instance will the x50 be too large?

Last year I used a Kriega bag on the seat cowl of my SV650 and it scratched the hell out of it and the rear fairing. Are there any good tips to prevent Oxford panniers from doing the same? Or are they designed not to scratch the fairing?

P.S. I did check a lot of threads but don't want to get roped into spending hours researching with 50 tabs open as seems to be the case when it comes to the bike.

Thanks,
Antony.

I went to the poundshop and got some of that black - non slip stuff. About a metre roll, cut to shape and that protects my paint Smile

^^ This. Rubber matting sold to prevent rugs slipping on hard floors.

You can get it in Wilcos.

Thanks for that. Recon it'd be worth sewing some of this into the back of the panniers? Might save a little headache. Guess it's the straps as well.

Any thoughts on which panniers are a good choice?

Just throw the sheet of stuff over the bike then put the panniers over the top. Stops them moving about too. You can lay it under your camping mat to stop it sliding about on the groundsheet.

Mrs stinkwheel says it makes riding pillion more comfortable because she doesn't slide about on the seat. Just remember to keep it away from the exhaust.

Whichever oxford panniers you buy, the zip tags will break off after about 18 months and the zips themselves will fail within 3 years of fairly regular use. The zips are not covered in their "lifetime" warranty so it's essentially just a con. Buy whatever is big and cheap, expect to replace it after 3 years.
